Once again we have arrived at Friday Fictioneers, the place where the cost of visiting is a 100 word story based on a photo prompt supplied by the CEO of all things Fictioneer, Rochelle. If you click the link above you can get to the rest of Rochelle’s visitors and virtual story-tellers. If you read on you can read my newest Friday Fiction, THE ARRIVAL.

The Arrival

by JE Lillie

The world is still brown and dead. The grain is all but spent. The fences are broken here and there and so many of our older trees succumbed to the weight of the snow and the voice of the winter wind. My fields lie barren.

Yet there is much to do. The sap has run. The sugar is boiling down. The cattle are restless in the stalls to rout for those first tasty shoots of green grass that will come on the meadows. The apple trees are budding and once again I catch the smell of fresh manure on the fields. Spring is finally here!

Allow the Spirit of Wisdom Access to Your Heart

Give Him all the room He needs, and He will give you all the answers you need.

And remember this: When people accuse you before everyone and forcefully drag you before the religious leaders and authorities, do not be troubled. Don’t worry about defending yourself or be concerned about how to answer their accusations. Simply be confident and allow the Spirit of Wisdom access to your heart, and he will reveal in that very moment what you are to say to them. – Luke 12a;11-12 TPT

I am really loving the Passion Translation of Luke.

Check out this gem. I quoted two verses above so you would get the context, but I love this thought –

… allow the Spirit of Wisdom access to your heart…

Not sure what to say?

Find yourself at a loss for words?

Always looking for the right answer for your accusers?

Stop.

Take a deep breath.

Open the door of your heart and let the Spirit of…

Lost in a Dream Come True

What’s the main thing?

Ken Knowlton's avatarartistdayapart

The old Yiddish proverb translates as “Man plans, God laughs.”  Equally old is the statement by the Roman emperor, Marcus Aurelius, “Live not one’s life as though one had a thousand years, but live each day as the last.”  So, should we live life completely in the moment with no thought for the future?  After all, God does say, So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.  (Matthew 6:34)

I have a friend who is a great guy who loves his family.  But he’s constantly working at his job.  He has a flexible starting time, but he almost always works late into the evening.  He rarely sees any of his family, except on weekends.  And on many of those, he wants to be able to relax or concentrate on his special hobby.  He is so concerned with the day-to-day need…

A New Thing: Being On Time.

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Beyond the Pale.”

The Daily Post asks, When was the last time you did something completely new and out of your element? How was it? Will you do it again?

I feel like life is constantly challenging me with new levels and opportunities for growth. I suppose that is a good thing. But I have to admit it is uncomfortable.

There are many things I am doing in new ways but I will share one stupid little item I am trying. I am trying to be on-time to events. Before we go on let me assure you, it is not what you think. All my life I have been early to everything I do (well except for that one brief period of time when the kids were little and the adjustment to having little kids made me chronically late to everything). My father taught both me and my sister that early is on-time, on-time is late and late is unacceptable. So being 1/2 hour ahead of the crowd is normal for me.

But recently the tightness of my schedule has been making it very stressful to be early. This morning I had a leadership meeting and I determined in my morning devotion that I was going to let go of my earliness expectation. The meeting was for 8 A.M; So I purposely took my time and didn’t even leave the house until 7:51 (the church is a 10 minute drive).

I arrived at the church to find the parking lot empty except for my daughter’s car. She was just leaving her early morning church cleaning gig.

“Where is everyone?” I asked.

“Your meeting isn’t until 8:30 Daddy.” My daughter explained.

So the on-time thing is a work in progress. Yes I will try it again but next time I will try to make sure I haven’t actually written my early arrival time in my planner.

What was I thinking?!?

Reblogging you some hope on this busy and fruitful Sunday afternoon!

When I think back at all the foolish, and even dangerous things I have done in the past I have to question my common sense (or sometimes my sanity).  Then there are the politically correct things that I violated time and time again without thinking.

One time while playing in the neighbor’s field, I decided to start an ant farm, so I put as many ants in my pockets as I could and brought them home to show my mother.  You can imagine how she reacted.  At an even younger age, I decided the dining room walls needed some extra color, so I rubbed butter all over one of them.  The grease stain remained there for years as a reminder of my earliest art work.  As I approached my teen years, my neighbors and I discovered the excitement of rock fights.  Unlike today’s video war games, people could actually be physically injured. …

“IT’S NOT OKAY”…….AGAIN

IT’S NOT OKAY

When I sat down to write a new post this morning, as I began praying re: what to write, a post that I wrote in April of 2012 called “It’s Not Okay” kept coming to mind.

This led me to reblog the post because I believe someone needs to read it to either be encouraged themselves to speak up and say “It’s not okay”, or inspired to encourage someone else they know who is dealing with a situation to speak up and say, “it’s not okay”.

The post is below……..be encouraged, be challenged, and be blessed.

IT’S NOT OKAY

(April 14th 2012)

Today I thought about how sometimes there are things that people do or say to us that are not okay with us, but we never say so.

We may want to speak up, need to speak up, or even…

Slip and Slide

Some necessary truths.

Joe Butler's avatarFaith and Footsteps

YLdMCc1428944136If you’re a child of the 80’s like me, then you may be familiar with the water toy the Slip’ N Slide.  While first released in 1961, it gained popularity in the 80’s right when I was an elementary age child.  The banana yellow sheet of plastic was rolled out in our backyard and made wet with a garden hose.  My siblings and I literally had hours of fun fighting off the Florida heat by sliding as fast as we could.  Sometimes, we even flew off the end of the slide, careening across the grass or into one of our friends.

I think too of the idea that we can slip and slide away from God if we’re not careful.  It is correct that we, as Christians, reside in the care of God, having faith and trust in Jesus.  But it is also true that we can fall away from…

To laugh often

Now this is a wonderful and powerful thought!

drbillwooten's avatarDr Bill Wooten

“To laugh often and much to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others to leave the world a little better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
