Share Your World 11-26-18

I didn’t get to Share My World last week. I got overly busy and missed out on one of my favorite challenges in the blogosphere.

This week is my birthday week so I am giving myself a little kindness and am making sure I share this week.

Here are Melanie’s weekly sharing questions. When you have finished reading my responses please click the underlined link and shoot over to Melanie’s place at Sparks From a Combustible Mind and read what her other contributors have written.

QUESTIONS:

If your five year old self woke up in your current body, what would happen, what would you say?

My five year old self would say “Wow you are fat! And apparently wicked smart!”

What is a relationship deal breaker for you?  Whether you are talking about a romantic one, a friendship or a related to sort of relationship?

The bar has to be set differently for every relationship as do the boundaries. The respect for the boundaries of each relationship determine my willingness to maintain the relationship in its current context. Disrespect the boundaries one too many times and you may find yourself placed in a whole new relationship box.

Is there something out there, a thought, an idea, a current event, or a fear that you find deeply unsettling?

I found this whole video deeply unsettling. We face so many questions as a culture that I wonder if we even have the right to ask. Further there are so many things going on that echo the biblical signs of the end that I cannot help but be a little unsettled by the nearness of it all.

And one that is a bit whimsical:

I need more whimsy in my life. Right now everything seems so serious. Oh  wait! I know!

If you were arrested with no explanation, what would your friends and family assume you had done?

Preached without a license.

Finally

What were you grateful for this week?  Something that brought some joy into your world?

It was my birthday!

If I had spoken out like that,
    I would have betrayed your children.
16 When I tried to understand all this,
    it troubled me deeply
17 till I entered the sanctuary of God;
    then I understood their final destiny.

18 Surely you place them on slippery ground;
    you cast them down to ruin.
19 How suddenly are they destroyed,
    completely swept away by terrors!
20 They are like a dream when one awakes;
    when you arise, Lord,
    you will despise them as fantasies.

21 When my heart was grieved
    and my spirit embittered,
22 I was senseless and ignorant;
    I was a brute beast before you.

23 Yet I am always with you;
    you hold me by my right hand.
24 You guide me with your counsel,
    and afterward you will take me into glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but you?
    And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
    but God is the strength of my heart
    and my portion forever.

27 Those who are far from you will perish;
    you destroy all who are unfaithful to you.
28 But as for me, it is good to be near God.
    I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge;
    I will tell of all your deeds. Psalm 73:15-28

What does it mean that flesh and heart may fail but God is still the strength of your heart and your portion?
