The Word of God is a bridge that connects Earth with Heaven and Heaven with Earth.- Joseph Elon Lillie

I just love it when one of my readers comments a blog and brings out a truth from Scripture that I hadn’t noticed before. To my mind that’s what good devotional blogging should do; It should spark  spiritual conversations that change both reader and writer. Thanks to Deb and Rob for bringing out some new thoughts from Acts chapter 10 during our last discussion.

Now on to today’s discussion!

24 The following day he arrived in Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends. 25 As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence. 26 But Peter made him get up. “Stand up,” he said, “I am only a man myself.”

27 While talking with him, Peter went inside and found a large gathering of people. 28 He said to them: “You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile. But God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure or unclean. 29 So when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection. May I ask why you sent for me?”

30 Cornelius answered: “Three days ago I was in my house praying at this hour, at three in the afternoon. Suddenly a man in shining clothes stood before me 31 and said, ‘Cornelius, God has heard your prayer and remembered your gifts to the poor. 32 Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He is a guest in the home of Simon the tanner, who lives by the sea.’ 33 So I sent for you immediately, and it was good of you to come. Now we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to tell us.”

34 Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism 35 but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right. 36 You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. 37 You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached— 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

39 “We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross, 40 but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen. 41 He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen—by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. 43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”

44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.

Then Peter said, 47 “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” 48 So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days. Acts 10:24-48 NIV

I want you to notice that the Bible teaches that the reason God chose Cornelius household for this blessing was that he was a man of prayer who remembered the poor (verse 31) out of a mindset of fearing the Lord (verse 35).

Explain in your own words this idea of “fearing the Lord”.

Do you think that most people who help the poor today do so out of a fear of the Lord?

If not why do they do it?

To give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul

I loved these thoughts shared by Kate. We need to spark our own inner children again!

Believe Anyway

Today many of us will be rushing about. I wanted to share a poem with you today. I hope you like it!

Youth ~ by Samuel Ullman

Youth is not a time of life–it is a state of mind. It is not a matter
of red cheeks, red lips and supple knees. It is a temper of the will;
a quality of the imagination; a vigor of the emotions; it is a freshness
of the deep springs of life. Youth means a temperamental predomi-
nation of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over a
life of ease. This often exists in a man of fifty, more than in a boy of
twenty. Nobody grows old by merely living a number of years; people
grow old by deserting their ideals.

Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the
soul. Worry, doubt, self-distrust, fear and despair…

Share Your World 2013 Week 42

share-your-world2

This seems to be the week of the reblog. I have found so many great thoughts encased in the blogs I have been reading i just had to share them with you. Most recently I shared a reblog from “Bread For the Bride.” You have to check this one out. It is so good!      http://breadforthebride.wordpress.com/2013/11/25/reblog-and-the-bride-wore-scars/

And after you have done that check out Cee’s subscribers and all the great answers they gave to this weeks “Share” questions at     http://ceenphotography.com/2013/11/25/share-your-world-2013-week-42/

Here are my answers to Cee’s awesome questions.

If you were the original designer of one existing corporate logo, which one would you select?

I would choose the Veggie Tales logo. I love these guys. Have you heard them?

If you could have your own TV channel, what would it be about?

I would probably choose a preaching and prophecy channel.  The truth about the future laid out in the Bible is far stranger than fiction.

If you were on an small island, who would you want to be with? And where is it?  How big is it?

My small island: would need to be somewhere where there are pleasant rains and no typhoons; Warm water but no sharks; Plenty to eat and no poisonous snakes. I am assuming I am not stuck on the island and could come and go at my pleasure. So I would like to be alone on the island for a prayer get-away. I guess that is not really alone but it would be away from other human contact.

At what age did you become an adult?

I was just talking about this with friends at my birthday party the other day. I said good bye to my childhood at age 35. I am not sure why I felt that way at 35 but that was the year I realized I was no more a kid.

Reblog: And The Bride Wore……Scars?

Such an important thought for the body of Christ to grab hold of!

Bread for the Bride

Reblogged from Bread for the Bride, April 2012:

SCARS

Recently I did a Google image search on ‘bride of Christ’. The results were interesting. With a few thought-provoking exceptions, the majority of images portrayed a Western bride dressed in long white gown and veil, with flawless fair skinned complexion and a radiant smile. Sometimes she is shown holding a sword, or depicted from the back looking searchingly towards the skies, at times surrounded by angels. But almost invariably the Bride shown in these images could have stepped straight out of a Hollywood movie.

I’m not suggesting there’s anything inherently wrong with this kind of imagery but it does seem to demonstrate a rather limited, stereotypical idea about what the Bride of Christ should look like, especially among Western Christians. Is this really how we imagine her to be in the eyes of Christ?

The Bride I’ve glimpsed differs somewhat from…

Be Holy (Leviticus 19:2b NIV)

Being holy for God God is holy!

Growing Up, God, and Being Busy

‘Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy.’

This verse called the Isrealites to be Holy for Him. this meant they needed to be different from the other nations around them. God wanted them to be different because they were His chosen people and He had a plan to use them for great and wonderful things. In the same way God called the desert-wondering Isrealites, God has called us to holiness too.

“…for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:16

God calls us to be holy for Him. Holiness is commonly defined as to be “set apart”. This means anything that is holy is distinguishable from the profane world around it. God wants us to be holy in this way, being different from the world around us. People need to be able to tell us apart from others who are not believers by…

There Be Giants…

Give today’s giant to God today. Promise God you’ll give Him tomorrow’s giant tomorrow.

artistdayapart

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:34)

I’ve been reading the beginning of the Old Testament recently and I realized that the word giants is mentioned numerous times.  In checking Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance, I discovered that it occurs 20 times.  Tribes described as giants included the Amorites, the Emim, the Zuzim (Zamzummim), the Rephaim, the Nephilim, and the Anakim.  Goliath and Og were two noted by name.  Yet for all their size and strength, all of these people were destroyed.  And not just by the Israelites–the sons of Esau and Lot also had to deal with them in the land that God had given them as well.

Even as a young, unsaved child, I was always amazed at David’s defeat of Goliath and the faith it took to even attempt to fight him.  Despite all the…

Deb and Rob had some great input in our last discussion concerning the angel sent to Cornelius in Acts chapter 10. If you missed that discussion or any of the others you can find them at

http://wp.me/P39vIx-Gh

I would love to hear your thoughts on the Book of Acts!

Here is our discussion topic for today:

9 The next day as Cornelius’s messengers were nearing the town, Peter went up on the flat roof to pray. It was about noon, 10 and he was hungry. But while a meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. 11 He saw the sky open, and something like a large sheet was let down by its four corners. 12 In the sheet were all sorts of animals, reptiles, and birds. 13 Then a voice said to him, “Get up, Peter; kill and eat them.”

14 “No, Lord,” Peter declared. “I have never eaten anything that our Jewish laws have declared impure and unclean.”

15 But the voice spoke again: “Do not call something unclean if God has made it clean.” 16 The same vision was repeated three times. Then the sheet was suddenly pulled up to heaven.

17 Peter was very perplexed. What could the vision mean? Just then the men sent by Cornelius found Simon’s house. Standing outside the gate, 18 they asked if a man named Simon Peter was staying there.

19 Meanwhile, as Peter was puzzling over the vision, the Holy Spirit said to him, “Three men have come looking for you.20 Get up, go downstairs, and go with them without hesitation. Don’t worry, for I have sent them.”

21 So Peter went down and said, “I’m the man you are looking for. Why have you come?”

22 They said, “We were sent by Cornelius, a Roman officer. He is a devout and God-fearing man, well respected by all the Jews. A holy angel instructed him to summon you to his house so that he can hear your message.” 23 So Peter invited the men to stay for the night. The next day he went with them, accompanied by some of the brothers from Joppa.” Acts 10:9-23

For today’s discussion tell me about five things that stand out to you in this dream sequence.
