Share Your World 11-25-19

Happy Thanksgiving world! For me and mine this is a week to give thanks for the abundant blessings which have been poured into our lives.

One of those blessings is SHARE YOUR WORLD. this weekly forum which helps many of us keep touch with those we have met on the blogosphere. So before I go a step further with this week’s challenge I want to say thank you to our hostess Melanie and her predecessor Cee who have kept us all connected for so many years! THANKS LADIES!

Here are this week’s connecting questions from Melanie and my answers. When you have finished reading my responses please click on the words “SHARE YOUR WORLD” in the paragraph above and connect with Melanie’s other subscribers.

  • What did you have for dinner last night?
  • Last night I made chicken parmigiana or at least my version of it. It was a little too spicy. I will fix that next time I try it out.
  • Would you rather go out on a Saturday night or stay in?
  • It depends on the week truthfully. If I have been out all day on Saturday doing ministry then I want to stay in and rest because Sunday is always a big day and it never pays to tackle a Sunday exhausted.

    How are you, truthfully?

Truthfully I am exhausted. But I am starting to rest. My new schedule is giving me some much needed breathing space and quiet time. I had not really realized how much energy I was giving out and how little I was retaining. I am beginning to feel much more balanced, but I can already feel the expectations of people beginning to try and draw me out of the opportunity for quiet. God keeps reminding me in my prayer times that I must choose the quiet.

What’s the best topping/ice cream combination?  If you don’t eat ice cream, what’s your favorite combination dessert?  (Example: pie and ice cream or pie and whipped cream – that sort of answer)

Pineapple and hot chocolate with marshmallow and whipped cream!

An Attitude of Gratitude:

Share Your Gratitude with a thought (quote), a picture or a short paragraph.  Most of us have lots to be grateful for, more than we might realize.   Happy Thanksgiving and have a great week!

I am so grateful for all the wonderful birthday wishes yesterday. I am grateful for another year to serve the Lord. I am grateful for the recent schedule changes which are giving me a chance to really prioritize certain parts of my life which have been too long neglected.

What follows here are my answers to Melanie’s questions from her weekly challenge SHARE YOUR WORLD.

Some of the questions are really intense and required some deep thinking on my part. I like that! When you have finished reading my responses please check out Melanie’s site to see how her other contributors answered.

  1. Can we ever experience anything objectively?  Why or why not?  (Now for the people who may not understand that idea, this is what objective means (definition wise):  Something that is not influenced by personal feelings or opinions).                                                                                                                                                                                       What a great question! One of the reasons I think we need Scriptures as people is because Scriptures give us an opportunity to experience objective reality. There is absolute truth, but apart from it being revealed by a higher source than my own experience that objective reality becomes obscured behind my subjective experiences and feelings. Reality becomes only what I know of it, and I know what I know of reality is definitely not all their is of that powerful thing.
  2. Do humans have a soul? Do animals have a soul?                                                                                                                                                                                                                      If by soul you mean: mind will and emotions, then I believe all living beings have souls.  We know this is true because animals definitely think. They also definitely decide things and they also feel things. I can make my dogs happy or sad or scared for sure. So animals and humans share in commonality in that they have a soul like that. Where I believe we are different is in the aspect of the Spirit or (nephesh soul according to Genesis 1), which is the connector between us and the Divine. I do not believe that animals have that.
  3. Why are people told to respect the dead? (example: “Don’t speak ill of the dead”)                                                                                                                                                              I actually was never taught that and I do not know why that seems to be a tradition among some people. While I do not think it is good to speak ill of people in general I do not think that speaking ill of the dead is any worse than speaking ill of the living. I do fail at both of these things sometimes.
  4. Without using the names of specific people, discuss “the ideal” President or other world leader.  Saying ‘anyone who is the exact opposite of a certain orange skinned creature’ is cheating.  While (to me) that’s a true statement, there’s more depth to the question than to reduce it to one sentence.

    Rock of ages

    A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;

from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.

2The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—

the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,

the Spirit of counsel and of might,

the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord

3and he will delight in the fear of the Lord.

He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes,

    or decide by what he hears with his ears;

4but with righteousness he will judge the needy,

with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth.

    He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth;

with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.

    5Righteousness will be his belt

and faithfulness the sash around his waist.

6The wolf will live with the lamb,

the leopard will lie down with the goat,

    the calf and the lion and the yearling a together;

and a little child will lead them.

7The cow will feed with the bear,

their young will lie down together,

and the lion will eat straw like the ox.

8The infant will play near the cobra’s den,

and the young child will put its hand into the viper’s nest.

9They will neither harm nor destroy

    on all my holy mountain,

for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord

as the waters cover the sea.

10In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his resting place will be glorious. 11In that day the Lord will reach out his hand a second time to reclaim the surviving remnant of his people from Assyria, from Lower Egypt, from Upper Egypt, from Cush, b from Elam, from Babylonia, c from Hamath and from the islands of the Mediterranean.

12He will raise a banner for the nations

    and gather the exiles of Israel;

he will assemble the scattered people of Judah Isaiah 11

I believe He is coming folks!

  5. Share your gratitude!  Stories, images or thoughts all welcome.

thankfulbanner    I am so thankful that my job has allowed me to work more from home. God orchestrated this change just in time as my mother has moved into a new phase of her disease that requires a much closer eye. Being home right now is absolutely essential. I am so grateful to my Pastor and our church board for allowing me this flexibility.

It is time once again to Share My World with Melanie! This is the weekly challenge where Melanie asks some questions and in answering them we share our worldsSYWRainbows

Here are this week’s sharing questions and my answers. When you have finished take a  trip to Melanie’s blog by clicking HERE TO SEE HOW HER OTHER CONTRIBUTORS ANSWERED THE QUESTIONS

  1. Is copying and pasting images or information off the Internet plagiarism?   Do you credit those whose work you ‘borrow freely’ or do you think the idea is repugnant?   (Credit for this question goes to GC and Sue)                                                                                I generally try to give credit where credit is due or I try to use stock images if I am using pictures.
  2.  Do you let sleeping dogs lie?                                                                                                             Unless they are my dogs I try to give sleeping dogs a wide berth.
  3.  What’s the strangest pet name (for adults) that you’ve ever heard someone called?           Stinky.
  4.  Do you like to dance?   If yes, what’s your favorite and if no, why not?

I do not dance mostly because I look like I am having a seizure when I do.

Gratitude Question:

November brings Thanksgiving to Americans.  I know Canada celebrates Thanksgiving too, but I believe it’s in October.   Does your country celebrate a similar holiday?   If you’d like, share some traditions you observe around Thanksgiving or if you don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, what are some traditions you have?

I love the old fashioned American Turkey. My sister lives in the Netherlands (when she is not home on intineration) and turkey over there has to be imported so it is super expensive. Still her colleagues get together and celebrate American Thanksgiving even though Sinter Klaus comes right on the heals of that on Dec. 5th.

Here I am once again SHARING MY WORLD  with Melanie from Sparksfromacombustiblemind.com

SYW Artic Ice

Here are Melanie’s weekly questions and my answers.

When you have finished reading my responses hop on over to Melanie’s site and read her other contributors.

  1. What is the meaning of true love?                                                                                         The true meaning? I am not sure about that but I am sure of the definition.         “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8                                                                                    I suppose what that means is that love is nigh unto impossible without God’s help. Maybe the meaning of love is to drive us to God so that we can really find out what it means.

  2. Do acts of kindness have a motive?                                                                                        Yes. The benefit of the recipient is the motive.
  3. If we live in a civilized world why do we see so many distinctions between rich and poor?                                                                                                                                       Because even the civilized world is fallen and can’t get itself up.
  4. Do we love ourselves more in the virtual world than in the real world?                  Wow! I don’t even know what that means. Am I different in the virtual world than in the real world? I try not to be so the me I love in the real world is the me I love in the virtual world. I think anything else would be unhealthy.

Gratitude Question:

Are you grateful?

I am so grateful for many things in my life. I have had my trials but over all I am blessed beyond measure!

It is time to Share my world again. This challenge has been one of my favorites for a long time now. Led first by Cee and now be Melanie. The challenge is to answer five (or so) questions each week and in answering them to share my view of the world. The questions and my answers are below. When you have finished reading them click on THIS LINK  and see how others have answered Melanie’s challenge.

  1. Where’s the line between respectful disagreement and being downright mean (bullying) to someone?                                                                                                                 I think the difference is in the spirit of control that is exercised in the midst of disagreement. I should be free to express my disagreement with people but love dictates that I do not insist on controlling anything other than my own boundaries. As soon as I cross the line into forcing someone to agree with me then I am bullying. Now that said I have to be allowed to keep my own boundaries. For instance in my own house I expect people to function within certain bounds of propriety. If they feel they cannot do that then they are welcome not to come to my house. That is not bullying that is holding proper boundaries.
  2. Would you prefer to live in a world where alcohol was free or where politicians were honest?                                                                                                            I don’t drink so free alcohol does little for me. I think we could all use a little more honesty across the board these days. Politicians are only a symptom of a much larger problem.
  3. What’s one habit you have that your family or friends think is rather childish?     I like superheroes.
  4. Would you rather go to a big party and rub shoulders with the rich and famous or go to an amazing quiet Garden that hardly anyone has ever visited?                     Garden most definitely!20190523_082550-264381319.jpg100_5204026

Halloween Question:    What do you think of the idea of “trick or treat or money for a charity” as a way of making Halloween more useful?

Let’s see extra fat grams or social justice……. Ummm…….

Share Your World From 10-14-19

Yay! I get to participate in SHARE YOUR WORLD HIS WEEK!

This challenge has been one of my favorites for several years. I hate to miss it but there have been seasons (this has been one) where finding any time to blog has proven problematic. I have learned over 8-ish years of being part of the blogosphere that is kind of the nature of the beast, but seasons change and this one is changing now. So YAY!

HERE ARE THIS WEEK’S SHARING QUESTIONS FROM MELANIE AND MY ANSWERS. WHEN YOU HAVE FINISHED HERE PLEASE USE THE UNDERLINED LINK TO GO AND VISIT SPARKS FROM A COMBUSTIBLE MIND AND CHECK OUT SOME OF MELANIE’S OTHER CONTRIBUTORS.

Why do we have such trouble telling our loved ones that we love them?  Do you have that kind of communication issue with your loved ones?

Above question inspired by this short, poignant blog post

https://mitchteemley.com/2019/10/10/love-before-its-too-late-2/

This was a problem for me for a lot of years. I think for me it was the result of my gender and my culture acting on me to tell me how my gender was supposed to be in the world. That said, my church has helped me to overcome many of my relational deficiencies.

Decorations for holidays?   Spirit lifters or pain in the butt?   Or a mix?

A definite butt lift. 🙂

Do you donate to charities?  Of your time, do you feel money is the only true gift, or other?  (nod to Rory for this idea)

I have been taught that giving to charities is not just a good thing to do but a necessity to do. I believe that when you choose a charity you should give it your time, talent and treasure. This calls for us to discern which charities we belong being a part of and which ones we do not.

Are you too superstitious or  have you ever played with a Ouija Board?

I am not superstitious I am spiritual and I believe in the spirit world as a very real part of the physical world. I have done way more than played with a ouija board. From those experiences I have learned that the spirit world is nothing to be toyed with. It can be a very dangerous place and God has warned us off many practices that our culture has made a game out of.

This week please share a photo or image of what ‘harvest’ and “Autumn” mean to you!   Thanks!

IT IS TIME TO SHARE MY WORLD WITH AL Y’ALL AGAIN!

SYW Artic Ice

Melanie from Sparks From A Combustible Mind uses this challenge to connect with her readers by asking weekly questions. IN answering the questions we all share our worlds. This week’s questions and my answers can be found below. When you have finished reading my responses, please click the underlined link above and see how Melanie’s other readers have responded.

Are we losing the art of listening in comparison to simply hearing?

I believe we have lost this quality as a culture on the whole. We no longer listen to understand. We listen mostly to respond and to use what we hear to prove our point. Thankfully, like most arts it can never be fully lost. It can always be relearned by those who find an interest.

How often do you openly discuss with friends or here in WP with your readership topics that make you feel uncomfortable or may be taboo or stigma laden?

I feel like more and more of my viewpoints are becoming uncomfortable for the general public, and there is definitely a stigma  concerning many of my opinions. That said, I try to gently lay my thoughts out there with an attitude of love and whatever anyone thinks is their business. Hopefully we can still speak cordially even if we do not see eye to eye.

Do you think that these discussions should be freely discussed and written about more?

I think open discussion is healthy.

Did you have a nickname as a child and if so, what was [or what is it now]?

J has always been my nick name. I am Joseph but being the fifth in line, nick names were always necessary.

Why is there still ‘stuff’ we simply just don’t understand despite our progressive world?

There will always be stuff we do not understand because we are not omniscient.

Would you rather double your height or lose half your weight?  (In response to last week’s double your weight, half your height query).  Thanks Leslie!

Suggestion by Leslie – Swot8

If I lost half my height I would be two times more “too heavy”, so it probably doesn’t matter.

What is your most essential kitchen tool?  (Can be a person you know.  For the non-cooks in the crowd).

My coffee maker of course.

Gratitude Question:

Who is one blogger you really admire and why?

Oh my! There are so many!

I really like Ben Nelson from http://anotherredletterday.com/show-me-your-glory/

Ben has such a great straightforward way of teaching God’s word.

I also love J.S. Park  of https://jsparkblog.com/ for his no nonsense logical approach to the Christian faith.

Every week Melanie posts several “Sharing Questions” and as we answer them we all share our worlds. Join in the fun by clicking the link above to go to Melanie’s site for the rules.

Here are the week’s questions and my answers.

When you’re 90 years old, what do you suppose will matter most to you?

The same thing that matters right now. Am I ready to meet Jesus and enter into eternity….I kind of hope that day comes before I am ninety, but whatever God’s plan is, I embrace it in advance.

What’s the best way to spend a rainy afternoon?

Reading, napping and writing…not necessarily in that order.

What is one thing you don’t understand about yourself?

Why I have such a hard time with being consistent.

When was the last time you tried something to look ‘cool’ (hip), but it ended in utter embarrassment?   Details?

Last night. I wore my socks with my sandals which I know is a total fashion trend,  but these backwards  people around me just fail to realize I am cutting edge.

Below are my answers to Melanie’s five questions. When you have finished here take some time and peruse her sight using the link above.

What would be your solution to the over-population of the earth?   Earth has finite resources and humanity seems to be breeding themselves to extinction.   Some countries have tried restricting the number of children a couple or a person can have, with little success.  So what other viable options are there for reducing the number of people?

I believe God has this one well in hand. I think this is kind of above our pay grade and if we just trust Him He will take care of us. To some that may sound like a cop out, but I believe when we follow the mandates God has given us and believe the prophetic word He has shown us we will come round right in the end.

What’s the most ridiculous fact you know?

Lady bugs have poisonous knees.

What are the unwritten rules of where you work? If you don’t work (retired or unemployed) what are the unwritten rules you live your life by?

Gluten is bad. Sugar is bad. Fat is bad. McDonald’s is SUPER BAD( I break  almost all of these rules daily). Hmm Unwritten rules in my daily life? I suppose there must be. Here’s one: Making your bed and getting dressed now counts as house work ( It makes me feel better about myself). 🙂

How do you feel about putting pineapple on pizza?

I think whoever thought that one up was a super genius. Not only is it yummy, but the rest of my family hates it, so I get a pizza all to myself when I buy one with pineapple on it!

Toilet paper, over or under?

Ours is not even on a ring. It sits on a shelf sideways.

What’s the best type of cheese?

White American
