Weekly Photo Challenge: What Takes Me Back?

THIS WEEK THE DAILY POST HAS CHALLENGED US TO DISPLAY PHOTOS THAT CREATE A SENSE OF NOSTALGIA.

You can click that link to see lots of nostalgic pictures. Here are mine. Perhaps they are so intensely personal to me they will inspire no  nostalgia in you, but then that is the nature of the beast, nostalgia. What stirs memory and passion in one person only reflects all that is mundane to another.

and moments that happen once in a lifetime.

All of these are nostalgia distilled and encapsulated never to be relived only reimagined around a table with friends.

What makes you nostalgic?

the Highest Quest: Weekly Photo Challenge

This week the Daily Post has given us the challenge of depicting A QUEST.

To me all other journeys pale in comparison to the adventure that leads us to God. The quest into the soul…the interior.. the realm of the Spirit is the quest that leads us beyond these mortal coils into eternity.

100_3387

I think the mistake so many of us make is in thinking that this journey is something that just happens to us automatically, but the quest for eternity must be the most intentional journey we ever engage in. Too many are lost in the darkness because they give no thought to pursuing the light.

Some think that all roads lead into the light of God. They would say, “Just pick a spiritual path and eventually you will find the light.”

But the truth  is only one True North for the soul exists. The pathway to the eternity God has put in our hearts has its start in the cross of Christ alone.

100_5431

But the quest hardly ends at the cross. The fountain of Christ’s cleansing blood is only the head water for a might river that runs to an eternal ocean of God’s love. If you would find forever start at the cross and then as C.S. Lewis would say “go further in and deeper back!”

WPC MORNINGS:The Rhythm Of the Day

This week the Daily Post has asked us to show WHAT OUR MORNINGS LOOK LIKE.

To me the morning is the reestablishing of a rhythm that was called to a halt with the final good night. It is a return to the slow. constant and intentional meter I marched to the day before. It is a welcoming of routine. For me, that return to routine starts with a morning walk with my two little friends Jacopo and Mercedes. Mercedes is the one in pink. Jacopo always wears blue.

It is a walk around the same block we visit three times daily. I must have a hundred pictures of this house.

But routine  always involves finding a variation on the theme. Everything living changes. This morning we noted Father Mike’s new dog fence at the rectory. As with all new things of course we must express our customary dismay with a healthy bark or two. No worries we didn’t wake up Father Mike or his border collie, Liam. I checked.

After our walk. Jacopo and Mercedes always settle down to breakfast and I settle down to my first cup’o Joe.

With coffee in hand it is time for morning devotions first with this book.

and then with these books.

With life’s rhythm established I am now ready to meet my day!

Here are some other mornings from across the world.
