Oh, the joys of those who are kind to the poor!
The Lord rescues them when they are in trouble.
The Lord protects them
    and keeps them alive.
He gives them prosperity in the land
and rescues them from their enemies.
The Lord nurses them when they are sick
and restores them to health. Psalm 41:1-3

Why do you think God favors those who are kind to the poor?

What are some things that get in the way of being kind to the poor?

But may all who search for you
be filled with joy and gladness in you.
May those who love your salvation
repeatedly shout, “The Lord is great!”
17 As for me, since I am poor and needy,
let the Lord keep me in his thoughts.
You are my helper and my savior.
O my God, do not delay. Psalm 40:16,17

Do you think there is a difference between God’s definition of delay and ours? If so what is the difference?

Evening Meditation 2-25-17

be filled with joy and gladness in you.
May those who love your salvation
repeatedly shout, “The Lord is great!”
17 As for me, since I am poor and needy,
let the Lord keep me in his thoughts.
You are my helper and my savior.
O my God, do not delay. Psalm 40:16,17

What does it mean that God is our savior? What does He save us from?

What is gladness? How is it different from joy?

Evening Meditation 2-23-17

wp-image-1078118197jpg.jpg

Please, Lord, rescue me!
Come quickly, Lord, and help me.
14 May those who try to destroy me
be humiliated and put to shame.
May those who take delight in my trouble
    be turned back in disgrace.
15 Let them be horrified by their shame,
for they said, “Aha! We’ve got him now!” Psalm 40:13-15

How does God shame people? What is the goal in producing shame? How is that different from when we shame people?
