2021 Home Photo Challenge 1-12-21

The Home Photo Challenge was fun for me last year. Since I do not think much is going to be changing for me in the way of travel this year, I am going to continue the challenge for myself into 2021. This year I am going to add a little twist. I will give a brief description of each photo I take and write a Haiku to go along with it.

Share Your World 1-11-21

It is time once again for SHARE YOUR WORLD. This is the weekly challenge where Melanie, from Sparks From A Combustible Mind , asks us several questions and in answering them we all share our worlds. You can read other contributors and or join the challenge by clicking the underlined link above….and now on to the questions!

QUESTIONS:

What should you get rid off, that would make your new year better, and why? (Don’t say Covid-19, we all want to get rid of the dang virus)   I snagged this question from another blogger, but failed to note who thought it up.  My apologies!  I KNOW better than to trust my memory any more.  If it’s your question and you’d like credit, please let me know!  Great question too, in my opinion!

I am getting rid of some flubber around my midsection. That will help me have a more energetic year for sure!!!!

What’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done?

Walking this last year in financial faith is probably the most daring act of faith I have ever taken. It has been amazing!

Does your family have a “motto” – spoken or unspoken?

My daughter says we have two mottos….”Did that hurt?” and “How’d that feel?”

My sister says our family mottos are “Suck it Sally” or “Are ya’ gonna do that again?” or “I’ll give you somethin’ to cry about.”

I was unaware that any of these statements rose to motto status…but apparently…….

On a scale of 1-10 how funny would you say you are?  (this does not mean ‘smell’ or looks; because this is a judgment free blog!)

Ummm……my daughter said -6 but I think that’s a judgment.

GRATITUDE SECTION

Tell everyone something that you found personally lifted your spirits!

Aside from the most obvious answers for me which are prayer, worship and reading the Bible, I have found that eating cookies while doing any of these activities personally lifts my spirits….of course it does nothing whatsoever for my flubbery midsection.

DLT Groups- Day 2 of 21 days of fasting and prayer

This is Day number 2 of our 2021 21 Days of fasting and prayer. Today’s prayer focus is DLT (Doing Life Together) groups.

Here are some things I know about DLT Groups-

  1. A DLT group may not be a traditional group- While we call these types of relationships groups the truth is they may not be groups in the traditional sense of the word at all. The important prat of Doing Life Together is DOING LIFE TOGETHER in whatever way the Lord creates that scenario. The important part of doing life together is in following the Acts 2:42 model: Breaking of Bread, biblical teaching, prayer and providing for each others’ needs. How that happens is secondary.

IT MAY BE FOUND IN A TRADITIONAL BIBLE STUDY SETTING.

IT MIGHT BE FOUND IN ON-LINE CONNECTION

IT MIGHT BE FOUND IN SEVERAL ONE TO ONE CONNECTIONS

2. DLT groups are initiated by God and then chosen by man.- The people in your DLT group will show up as you pray for them. They may not be connections you would obviously choose and they may not even be with people you normally associate with. Right now God has directed me to a DLT group that is based around individual meetings and on line connections. One is a friend I have made over the years who is currently living in seclusion because of the pandemic. I check in with him and his wife weekly on line. Another in my DLT group is an elderly lady in our church I take out to do grocery shopping every other week. A third person in DLT group is the treasurer of our church who I meet with once a month for coffee. None of us are meeting in one group ever but we are all connected by the four aspects of Doing Life Together.

3. DLT groups don’t become DLT groups naturally– The DLT lifestyle (breaking bread together, biblical teaching, prayer and mutual provision of needs) needs to be intentionally integrated into relationships that would otherwise simply be acquaintances.

tell me what God is showing you about DLT groups or relationships as you pray today.

The midwinter sun shining into The Vicarage back yard.

In the azure sky

The mid-winter sun calls out,

“Gaze on my beauty!”

The Quiet Approach Of a New Day

I love to begin with the quiet of a new day.

I love to rise before the rest of the house does and slowly gather my thoughts in prayer for the first couple of hours of the emerging morning.

I love to watch the sun rise over the back yard, bringing light to the Vicarage once again. It feels like a victory each time I see the sun wink into existence, to know that I have beaten the heating orb to the punch one more time.

Somehow catching those first quiet rays sets me up for the rhythm of the rest of my day. It is as if those gentle morning moments breathe something fresh into me that can carry me through into all the peace, creativity and strength I need for the rest of the day.

I love experiencing the quiet approach of a new day. How about you?

The Imagination Of A Two-Year-Old

We took ‘Lella home today. She was so happy to see her mom and dad and to meet her baby sister Yve.

Having Daniella with us here at The Vicarage has been a great way to start this new year. The last eleven days have forced us all into her rhythm of play and imagination, and while it has been a bit tiring, it has been very good for all of us.

Lisa Johnson, a friend of ours who teaches pre-schoolers reminded us that the lovely thing about children ‘Lella’s age is that it is not hard to entertain them. Give them a card board box and their imagination does the rest.

‘Lella reminded us what it was like to try new things. She reminded us about the wonder of discovery.

And she also taught us that it is OK to leave all the energy out on the playing field and to rest when you are tired.

I think the lessons we have learned will serve us well as we face the blessings and challenges of 2021.

We keep our Christmas trees up well into January to bolster our moods as the long winter settles in.

Some call it lazy.

I call it festivity.

Keeping the tree up.
