Evening Meditation 1-2-20

Once you spoke in a vision,
    to your faithful people you said:
“I have bestowed strength on a warrior;
    I have raised up a young man from among the people.
20 I have found David my servant;
    with my sacred oil I have anointed him.
21 My hand will sustain him;
    surely my arm will strengthen him.
22 The enemy will not get the better of him;
    the wicked will not oppress him.
23 I will crush his foes before him
    and strike down his adversaries.
24 My faithful love will be with him,
    and through my name his horn[f] will be exalted. Psalm 89:19-24

Why do you think evil keeps on trying to win when it is sure to lose in the end?

    and strike down his adversaries.
24 My faithful love will be with him,
    and through my name his horn[f] will be exalted. Psalm 89:19-24

Give me some examples of God strengthening people.

How Truth Sets You Free

This word came to me in prayer this morning. I felt led to share it with you.

God is the holder of our true identities. We can never really know who we are or who we were made to be until we come to Him. Until then we put on half true faces to match the tenor of the world around us. Even when we do come to Him, though, we find that our false selves still cling to us. It is only in the relating to God that those false selves begin to strip away and we come to ourselves. It is for this reason the world, the flesh and the devil work so hard to keep Christians from doing the very things which most deeply connect them to God. You see, in the connecting we become truly ourselves and all the interior spaces we once gave to our false selves is taken up by truth, and as you know the truth will set you free!

What is the importance of anointing?

All the Words We Can Never Say

Our decadent liturgy is dribbling decencies:

Debussy’s  Prelude all modern and dissonant:

“Of course that doesn’t make you look fat!”;

Dan Gibson’s Introit, all daylight and desire:

“Mmmm! This is so good I must have the recipe!”;

Dawn’s invocation:

“I am really good. You?”;

The laud at the door:

“Such a sweet child.”;

Second song:

“I sing because I’m happy.”;

Canticle of alms and gifts:

“Of course I can buy one. I’ve always wanted one of these!”;

Sermon:

“You sing beautifully!”;

Hymn of response:

“Well of course. That makes perfect sense.”;

Benediction:

” Come back anytime. Just call first.”;

In our service will we ever speak all the words we can never say?

Evening Meditation 12-30-19

Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;
    love and faithfulness go before you.
15 Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you,
    who walk in the light of your presence, Lord.
16 They rejoice in your name all day long;
    they celebrate your righteousness.
17 For you are their glory and strength,
    and by your favor you exalt our horn.[d]
18 Indeed, our shield[e] belongs to the Lord,
    our king to the Holy One of Israel. Psalm 89: 14-18

What do you think our horn and shield are in verses 17 and 18?
