SUNDAY CREATIVE WRITING 10-27-2024

I am continuing to follow my discipline of creative writing on Sundays and Wednesdays. Today I am writing from a prompt offered by MOONWASHED MUSINGS. Check out the other submissions by clicking the link.

HERE IS THE PROMPT I AM WRITING FROM. I AM CHOOSING TO USE AN OVI FORM TO ANSWER THE PROMPT.

FLICKERING CANDLES BURN

by JE Lillie

The world grows dark with shadow’s might.

Forces arise dispelling light.

Hope quelling blackness comes to fight.

Men draw back in fearful corners.

Yet, what the darkness does not know,

Hope is light the heart’s inner glow.

Though crushed to coal it yet will grow.

Flickering candles can still burn.

CREATIVE WRITING WEDNESDAY 10-23-24

As part of my life rhythm for 2025 and 2026, I have designated Wednesdays and Sundays as Creative writing days here on LILLIE-PUT. It is time for me to get back to the writing process which I have too long neglected.

So each Wednesday and each Sunday I will be using a prompt either from one of my “Writer’s Remedy” jars or from WordPress. This week I have chosen to practice a new form of poetry called an OVI. This is a form introduced to me by RONOVANWRITES.

You can click the link above to check out the style requirements of the poem if you want to join in. Ronovan’s inspiration subject for our poetry this week is the word: RESPECT

MAKING ROOM

The threads are spinning fast today.

Options increase hiding the Way

Of life. It’s a high price to pay.

We cling to woven forms not ours.

“This land, this cash, this right is mine!”

We shout, we scream, we cry, we whine,

We don’ t know destiny refined?

Chances at brotherhood are lost.

I hear a voice cry, “Please! Respect!

My weaving should  have an effect!”

It’s One whose love we should reflect.

We’re pieces of His tapestry.

So, in my thread,  I’m making room.

For those who’d come out from the gloom

To spin at the Great Weaver’s loom.

Just parts of the Weaver’s story.

LAND AND SEA AND HATE

BELOW IS MY SUBMISSION FOR W3 PROMPT 129. IT’S BEEN A HOT MINUTE SINCE I’VE WRITTEN POETRY. I AM NOT SURE OF MY IAMBS AT THIS POINT. IT’S A FIRST STAB AT GETTING BACK INTO CREATIVE WRITING. THANKS FOR THIS GREAT EXERCISE!

LAND AND SEA AND HATE by J.E. Lillie

What heart is there now in this hardened land

That bends the ancient truths of Sovereignty?

Predispositioned to the will of man

All rebels rise, bequeath indignity.

To troubled souls made dumb by double speak.

All hearts are lost in ocean waves of lies.

That beggared sea embroiled with frothy peaks

Pulls down the great ships filled with wounded lives.

The sea meets shore and crashes all the more.

Men flop in shipwrecked garb upon the beach.

And gasp for life against this drowning war.

Then hand grasps hand to break the hardened breach.

A Thing called Friendship now necessitates

We turn the tide of land and sea and hate.

Endless Heart

Sammi Cox has issued writing challenge #172.

Here are the parameters: A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend.  How you use the prompt is up to you.  Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like.  Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise.  If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in the comments.

ALTERNATE CHALLENGE:

ENDLESS HEART

by J. Lillie

My friend says reality is killing him:Covid-19, lay-offs, election cycles, family stress, overdue bills, black lives matter and white man’s privlege, Democrats, Republicans and the scraps of whatever is left between them. It’s all too much for one man’s mind to fathom never mind survive.

The land’s enshrouded.

Darkness reigns for the moment

But the sun will burn through.

I tell my friend that Reality doesn’t kill. Reality brings life: love, joy, peace, long- suffering, gentleness, kindness, faith, meekness and self control. Surely sin has bent our perception of what is and made it everything that is not real. Reality is the kingdom of God within us.

Eternity dwells

In jars made of weak clay, so

Endless heart live on.

KISS THE WHEAT

by J. Lillie

The sun will soon meet

In the lap of the garden.

Setting fields ablaze.

Wheat and tares will burn.

Parted at last in harvest

Sun-kissed wheat will heal.
