You’re Part Of the Conspiracy Pt. 3

We continue this morning with our transcript from Sunday morning’s sermon entitled, “You’re Part Of the Conspiracy” If you have missed either of our previous portions they can be found HERE.

Here is part three of our sermon discussion:

If we determine to be the church that will fulfill God’s plans in these last days we must individually respond in at least one of four ways depending on our position in the church ( Little child, young man or elder SEE PART TWO FOR A REFRESHER)

Today I want to start speaking to the little children.

“Little Children”, in order to answer the call we must come to know God’s Son, Jesus Christ. God wants to involve us all in His plan but before we can even be a part of the plan we must be a part of the church. I am not talking about joining church membership  through some class taught by the church. Being a part of the church involves a step before that. The church is not those who have gone through church membership class. The church in Scripture is defined as those who have been born again and who have been given eternal life.

In John Chapter 3, Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth truth, unless you are born again,a you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”4“What do you mean?” exclaimed Nicodemus. “How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?”5Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit.b 6Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life.c 7So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘Youd must be born again.’

You see, when humans are born we are born as living beings. Our flesh, heart, lungs and stomachs are alive and our souls, our mind, will and emotions are alive; But humans are triune beings. We are body, soul and spirit. Jesus and Paul explained this in their teachings that when children are born their bodies and souls are alive but because of sin, which is now part of the DNA makeup their spirits, the part  that connects to God and Heaven is dead.

Without living spirits we cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven or be part of the plan of God. So being born again or having a second birth a spiritual birth is necessary. That is done by putting our faith in Jesus’ death on the cross and in His resurrection from the dead and by making Him the only God of our lives. When we do that Jesus forgives our sins and resurrects our spirits to life.

Here are some Scriptural proofs for these assertions:

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. John 3:16-18

23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God Rom. 3:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in[a]Christ Jesus our Lord. Rom. 6:23

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Rom. 10:9

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Eph. 2:8-10

Pastor Wrinkles: A Road Through Romans 1:1:1

100_5431

I have been toying with the idea of a verse by verse study for the last several weeks. My only hesitation has been that my schedule for the last several months has left me little time for blogging. I sense that is all changing now. I feel like I will have more time to give to the writing (which is a good thing because this art has been too long neglected to the detriment of my heart).

So today we begin a verse by verse devotional study through the Book of Romans. We are going to go slow and I am going to set up a page under the Pastor Wrinkles Heading so people can catch up if they fall behind.

So Here we go:

“Paul…” Romans 1:1:1

I told you we were going to go slow. Before we go any further we have to look at the first word of this letter. It is a name. It is the author’s name. We know a lot about this man. His name alone has the power to draw us closer to God.

We know he was a servant of Christ (more on that tomorrow).

We know he was an apostle (more on that on Thursday).

We know he was a Jew.

We know he was a Pharisee (one of the bad guys sort of).

We know by his own admission he started out as a persecutor of the church.

We know he considered himself one of the worst sinners in history because of that.

We know his name really wasn’t Paul. You see God changed his name from Saul to Paul. When this man met God his whole identity was changed. He went from persecutor to pastor. He went from enemy of the faith to apostle of the faith. He went from sinner to saint.

THAT’S HOW IT SHOULD BE FOR US!

In another letter Paul wrote, “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” 2 Cor. 5:17

This is what it means to be born again. Maybe we won’t get a new name like Paul did but we will get a new identity in Christ. Anything less is less than Christianity.

Have you met the new you? If not ask Jesus to introduce you. He knows the new you very well.

Dust Kiddies Pt. 3

Little Lamb! Little Lamb! Who hath made thee?

Now let’s get on with today’s portion of the study:

We have established in the two previous posts that spiritually we are totally unable to help or save ourselves but that God wants to help us if we will just admit our need of Him.

God wants to help us in two ways. Today let’s discuss the first.

God  wants to help us overcome our weakness and our proclivity towards sin.

Dillon Burroughs writes, “The solution to our human frailty is not to try harder, but to turn Godward.”

― Dillon BurroughsHunger No More: A 1-Year Devotional Journey Through the Psalms

The truth is, that while your weakness may have defined who you are up to this present time it does not have to define you anymore.  The GOOD NEWS of Christianity is that we can be born again! We used to sing a song when I first became a Christian that went something like,

” There’s been a great great change since I’ve been born. There’s been a great great change since I’ve been born. There’s been a great great change since I’ve been born again.”

Jesus himself  said that the process of becoming a Christian is literally being “BORN AGAIN”

Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again,[a] you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”

“What do you mean?” exclaimed Nicodemus. “How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?”

Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit.[b] Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life.[c] So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You[d] must be born again.’ John 3:3-7 NLT

In the end of the matter, we are set free from our lives of weakness not by trying harder but being born again and we are born again when the Spirit of God comes into our hearts by our prayerful invitation.

Let’s pray together now:

Father God I realize I cannot help myself or work my way out of a life of sin. Only you can help me. I admit that. So Lord come into my life right now. Cause me to be born again. Forgive all my sin and give me a new start a new life birthed by the Spirit of God. I believe it is possible through Jesus Christ, his death on the cross and his resurrection from the dead. Amen.

Hey if you prayed that prayer with me for the first time would you drop me a comment to let me know?

The Born Again Experience

100_1148

For about two years now I have been following a blog written by a wonderful Christian woman named Jessica Hoff. Recently she and some of her other contributors have been discussing the concept of the born again experience. Specifically how is it different from “religion” and is this thing called being born-again a moment or a process?

http://jessicahof.wordpress.com/2014/02/28/how-do-we-know-god/

http://jessicahof.wordpress.com/2014/02/27/born-again-2/

http://jessicahof.wordpress.com/2014/03/11/being-a-christian-4/

As I have read the posts and the thoughts of her commentators I thought I might add my two cents concerning being “born again”.  If Jessica decides the post worthy of a reblog she has my permission in advance to do so and if not then I shall take no offense as at the very least it will fill a little bit of my corner of the blogosphere with thoughts that make me happy.

In this corner of Christianity ( being the American Assemblies of God, a Pentecostal cooperative fellowship) we use terms like “saved”,  “redeemed”, and “born again”  interchangeable to describe the conversion experience; That is the “I once was lost and now am found” experience.

Like Geoff who wrote http://jessicahof.wordpress.com/2014/03/11/being-a-christian-4/  I believe that being born again is not about coming to God for therapy (although Jesus is the Wonderful Counsellor).  Being born again starts when a person realizes that his sin separates him from God and that there is a need for forgiveness. Being born again takes place when a person realizes that Jesus died on the cross to  take mankind’s punishment for sin. Being born again takes place when a person confesses his sin by prayer to God and receives by faith forgiveness of that sin.  Being born again takes place when Jesus comes into a person’s life and brings a dead spirit to life by  supernatural work. In short, a man is not born again because of anything the man does but because of what Jesus did on the cross and what Jesus does personally in that man’s life to make the man come to life through the Holy Spirit. Prayer and confession only make a pathway for Jesus to come in. ( See John 3:3-6,16-18, Rom. 3:23 Rom. 6:23, Rom. 10:9, Eph 2:1-10)

At the moment a man is born again by the supernatural work of Jesus Christ that man is granted eternal life and a home in Heaven ( John 1:12, 3:16).

But let’s not pretend that obtaining Heaven is the pinnacle of Christianity. Being born again takes place in a moment of time but the born-again experience is an eternity of walking out (it’s a process called sanctification in the Bible). If the only point of being  born again was going to Heaven then God would have beamed us off of Earth at the moment of conversion. Being born again is as much an experience and a walk as it is a moment. Once I  was born again I was called to begin living as a born again Christian.

8For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9(for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10and find out what pleases the Lord. 11Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. 14This is why it is said:

“Wake up, sleeper,

rise from the dead,

and Christ will shine on you.”

15Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. 18Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Eph. 5:8-20 NIV

Now I don’t live as a child of light to be saved or born again but because I am saved because I am born again. I was born again and my name was written in the Lamb’s Book of Life (Rev 21:27) 32 years ago and I have not been the same since that day!
