Evening Meditation 6-21-17

Justice—do you rulers[b] know the meaning of the word?
    Do you judge the people fairly?
No! You plot injustice in your hearts.
    You spread violence throughout the land.
These wicked people are born sinners;
    even from birth they have lied and gone their own way.
They spit venom like deadly snakes;
    they are like cobras that refuse to listen,
ignoring the tunes of the snake charmers,
    no matter how skillfully they play. Psalm 58:1-5

Do you believe everyone is born a sinner? Why or why not?

Are there requirements for judging fairly? What are they?

If you could pass judgment on your enemies but that same judgment would be meted out to you by your enemies would you judge with justice or mercy? What makes you choose that?

I will thank you, Lord, among all the people.
    I will sing your praises among the nations.
10 For your unfailing love is as high as the heavens.
    Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.

11 Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens.
    May your glory shine over all the earth. Psalm 57: 9-11

What’s your part in making God’s glory shine over the earth?

How comfortable are you publicly praising God? What in you causes that response?

My enemies have set a trap for me.
    I am weary from distress.
They have dug a deep pit in my path,
    but they themselves have fallen into it. Interlude

My heart is confident in you, O God;
    my heart is confident.
    No wonder I can sing your praises!
Wake up, my heart!
    Wake up, O lyre and harp!
    I will wake the dawn with my song. Psalm 57:6-8

What do you do to combat lukewarmness…the sleepiness that society is weaving around us?
