Art For the Month Of April Pt. 4

I have been trying to spend about twenty minutes a day sketching. I am getting better, but I know I have a long way to go. Here is a still life of a shoe I did.

I realize I get so focused on the object I am trying to draw that I forget that it does not just float in space. It is only as I am posting this that I noted I did not draw anything into the background, not even a shadow. Well, t least it looks like a shoe.

NaNoWriMo 2019 Go Us!

I am still plowing my way through NaNoWriMo 2019. I am still engaging in the work. Go me!

Today in the midst of my daily reading about writing and in the midst of rereading my manuscript I am meditating on the importance of my voice in the community…the conversation I bring to the table. I have worked through the manuscript of Pork Chops With the Sentinels Of Azatan one more time. Taking notes as I go and thinking about the connection of scenes within the book and the progression of characters throughout the story, I find myself asking:

“Will this story create conversations of value?”

“Will this book make people think?”

“Will it cause people to disagree?”

“Will it cause anyone to change?”

My sister is in her last performance tonight of the play “Seven”. I saw the piece last night. It was good. I disagreed with many things in the play. It made me angry for the plight of women around the globe. It made me want to have a conversation about….well, …something bigger than me.

That is what I want from my book. I want to engage as well as entertain. I want to start a conversation that will go farther than….well,… me.

We are still plowing our way through NaNoWriMo 2019. By reading this you are still engaging in the work. Go us!

Quotes From An Artist’s Reboot

Brenda and I are working through a book geared to reboot us as artist’s. We are writing extensively about it over at our other blog Notes From the Vicarage.

But I did want to share a few quotes from the book here:

“Every Child is an artist. The trick is remaining one as a an adult.” Pablo PIcasso

“It is solved by walking.” Augustine of Hippo (note this means if you have a problem take a walk!)

It is important to be very gentle with yourself, especially in the early days of a transition.- Julia Cameron

A Word About Artistry 4-27-19

This “word” came to me in my prayer time the other day. As this is art show weekend at Cornerstone. I thought it was a fitting word to share

True artistry is living out of the authentic self by demonstration. That is not the authentic self we have created in response to the world. Artistry is the expression of the deepest self, the self that is connected to the Creator and is untouched, uninfluenced by the world.- J. Lillie
