Bought With a Price

We need to remember this.

justifiedfreely's avatarJustified Freely

What?  know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?  For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

I Corinthians 6:19-20

This is a famous passage for a reason.  It contains a great truth.  Often, we start thinking that we are in control of our own lives.  We start thinking that we “run the show.”  But, if we are Christians, we do not even own ourselves.

This passage tells us that our very bodies are the temples of the Holy Ghost.  We have our bodies because of God.  We have everything from God through Jesus Christ.  He created us.  He gave us life.  He gave us everything.  And not only did He give us everything, He purchased us by…

Daily Prompt: Audience of One

Calling all photographers.

Cee Neuner's avatarCee's Photo Challenges

WordPress Daily Prompt:  Audience of One:  Picture the one person in the world you really wish were reading your blog. Write her or him a letter.

I’m going to take liberty and change the letter to someone who wants to participate in my challenge but is too afraid.

___________________________________________________

Dear Reader,

I’ve seen you sneak a peek at photography blogs and even caught you looking at my challenges once or twice.  I get a feeling you want to play along and add one of your own photos.  But you are too afraid.  Those voices in your head are saying little phrases like, you are not good enough, you only have a cell phone, your camera is too old, you are not a photographer, you have no creativity, you don’t have an eye for photography.  And then you hear other voices asking what if they hate my photo, what…

Mirror, Mirror…

Just remember, all we see is not all there is.

Ken Knowlton's avatarartistdayapart

We’ve all heard the line, “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest one of all, from the wickedly vain queen in Snow White.  And many of us have had problems with what we see reflected there.

So, let’s get the physical out of the way first.

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and  knit me together in my mother’s womb.  Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!  Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.  You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.  You saw me before I was born.  Every day of my life was recorded in your book.  Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed (Psalm 139:13-16).  There you have it; God made you to be perfect.  But perfect in His sight…

A 24/7 Sanctuary

He is our oasis!

debbestillandlisten's avatarDebBe Still and Listen

The Daily Prompt:  Oasis

A sanctuary is a place you can escape to, to catch your breath and remember who you are. Write about the place you go to when everything is a bit too much.

When everything is a bit too much I like to be in my church sanctuary especially after a prayer meeting so I can rest in the lingering presence of the Lord.  Being in the sanctuary when no one else is there allows my mind to surrender my emotions to the Holy Spirit in turn I receive a sweet peace, a peace like no other.  This peace goes beyond all understanding and the comfort from it is such that I wish I didn’t have to leave.  But since I don’t live at the church and I can’t access the sanctuary at will  my sanctuary would be at my bedside on my knees.

Although, after thinking about it I would have to say my oasis is not…

Daily Prompt: Unsafe Containers

I thought this was a great analogy.

debbestillandlisten's avatarDebBe Still and Listen

Unsafe Containers

After hitting  “try another prompt”  multiple times this is the daily prompt I chose to write about today it was originally posted on from June 3, 2014.

Which emotion(s) — joy, envy, rage, pity, or something else — do you find to be the hardest to contain?

As I think about this question I am acutely aware of how many unsafe containers I have had in my life before coming to know Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior!   Every single emotion listed as well as others not listed I have lived through and sometimes the spillage was beyond my control.  I bet many of you know exactly what I’m talking about, don’t you?  What I have noticed is that the more mature my walk with Christ becomes the safer my containers become resulting in less spillage.

Oh, believe me I’m not saying I don’t experience these emotions anymore because I do after…

One thing that fascinates me of late is the idea of the incarnation. Of course we have just come through the season where we celebrate Christ’s incarnation, His taking on human flesh and walking our streets and wearing our frailty. (Phil 2:6-9)

But there is another facet to incarnation that intrigues me.

The Bible teaches us that when we give our lives and hearts to Him, He indwells us – He comes to live in us. Our life becomes a home for the Holy Lord…

The World of “Huh?”

It may not make sense but it’s true anyway.

Ken Knowlton's avatarartistdayapart

Does it ever seem to you that the world is full of things that simply make you scratch your head and wonder what on earth people are thinking?

For example, where but in America…

♦   can a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance.
♦   are there handicap parking places in front of a skating rink.
♦   do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions, while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.
♦   do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a diet coke.
♦   do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.
♦   do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.
♦   do we use answering machines to screen calls…
