Share you world is a challenge in which our hostess Melanie asks some questions and in answering them we, her contributors, Share Our Worlds!

Here are the weekly questions:

QUESTIONS FOR THIS WEEK:

Name two books that have influenced you and share how.  (Credit for this question goes to Teresa of The Haunted Wordsmith.   She asked for TEN books, in her challenge, so the SYW folks got off a bit easy..)

The most influential book I have ever read is The Bible. This book took me off the path of the New Age and put me on the pathway of eternal life with Jesus.

The second most influential book is a really hard choice. Maybe Seven Habits for Highly Effective People by Steven Covey…Maybe Visioneering by Andy Stanley…It might even have been a genre, comic books which gave me my love for reading in the first place.

In your opinion, where is the line between art and not art?

In my mind real art influences and inspires people. If it doesn’t influence, if it doesn’t inspire then it probably isn’t art, but only probably. It is art after all, there are no hard and fast rules.

Trivia for Halloween:   What item is banned only during Halloween from 12am October 31st to 12pm November 1st in Hollywood California?   (I know the answer, but I do not have any idea WHY)..c’mon…hazard a guess!

Silly String? Really?!?  I Googled it. The truth is, I get it. My youth group once silly stringed my home. Did you know silly string once it dries peels the paint off of anything it is touching when you remove it? It can take the paint off of…cars…front porches….kids toys…swimming pools… yes anything!

What is something that really annoys you but doesn’t bother most people?                       Most people like my singing voice. Honestly though my voice kind of bugs me. I would like to listen to myself and really enjoy what I am hearing. Generally I don’t so I try to limit how much I listen to myself.

Instead of our usual gratitude question, I’m posing this one for this week:

What or who in your life brings you the most joy?

Prayer is my joy center.

I love this new SHARE YOUR WORLD LOGO. It symbolizes the new SHARE YOUR WORLD CHALLENGE.  That is the challenge where Melanie asks some questions and in answering them we all share your worlds a little bit.

Here are this week’s questions and my answers.

What’s the biggest screw up in the kitchen that you were responsible for?

kitchenfubars

I come from a restaurant family. We ate more meals at the Old Traveler’s (my family’s diner) than at home. I started washing dishes at 15 and waiting tables at 17. As a young adult I was moved by my father behind the stove.

One of my worst screw ups came just weeks before my wedding. My mind was definitely not in the kitchen in those days.

One of my responsibilities as the cook was to bake the sausage loafs we were famous for. I had the recipe and process committed to memory. Memory failed that day. I skipped the step of putting in the spices and ended up baking 60 pounds of unseasoned pork loaf.  Dad was less than pleased

What, in your opinion, makes people believe absurd conspiracy theories?

There are no theories. It really is a conspiracy.

In 40 years what will people be nostalgic for?

America. Oh that was a bit dire. Let’s try again. The Arctic Circle? Fossil Fuel? Hawaii? California? Breathable air? Yeah this just isn’t getting any better.

Is a hot dog a sandwich?  cartoon hot dog character with mustard clipart

Ummmm. I think it is kind of like unseasoned pork loaf.

And finally:

grat

What wonderful thing happened to you this week that you’d like to share?  It can be a gratitude moment or something that just made you feel very happy at the time or made you laugh.

A Photo A Week: A Wee Bit Of Whimsy

This week Nancy at NANCY MERRILL PHOTOGRAPHY HAS ASKED US TO SHOW HER WHAT WHIMSICAL MEANS TO US.

Here is my attempt:

Pastor Wrinkles wild and crazy days as a youth pastor are gone but not forgotten. Someday I may even receive a reward in Heaven for being willing to wear this costume at a youth convention in front of 1100 teenagers.

It is time to Share Our Worlds With Melanie!

Each week Melanie asks four questions and we her contributors answer them and so we share our worlds!

Here are her questions this week:

Do you prefer Apple (‘I’ products) or Android for your technology ‘fix’?

I have only ever used Android products. Before my current smart phone I owned a flip phone.

What’s something on your personal bucket list?

To live forever. I know it kinda ruins the bucket list idea doesn’t it, but hey that is the promise we Christians live for.

What would you name your boat if you had one?   The Unsinkable 3? The Please Don’t Sink? Your choice! Also, what would it look like? Do you want a motor yacht, a sailboat, or perhaps a dinghy?

The Dawn Treader. It would look like this.

Which fictional character would be the most boring to meet in real life?

You know I guess the word “boring” just doesn’t sync with me. Can I change it to annoying? The most annoying character is  Bella Swan from the Twilight series. That girl just couldn’t get out of her own way.

And finally:

What brought gratitude, a smile or laughter to your life this week?

I am reading a new book by Andy Stanley called Irresistible. It is a powerful read.

So…one of my favorite challenges, SHARE YOUR WORLD,  has been picked up from Cee Neuner by Melanie over at SPARKS FROM A COMBUSTIBLE MIND.

Melanie will now be asking the questions, but I and others will still be answering them. So here are this week’s questions and my answers:

Questions:

What’s your go-to for unwinding after a stressful event or day?   Can be someone or something – music, pets, family or whatever you choose.

I am a pretty boring person. I unwind after a stressful day usually by reading or watching a crime drama on TV. That said I am trying to make a shift in this arena to making sure I pray at the end of every work day whether it was stressful or not.

The plane you’re flying in is going to crash, no survivors.  If you had one song you could listen to before it happens, what would it be?  (credit toNewEpicAuthor for this one).  Please share the link to the song if you can.

There are a few:

What is one thing you’re really, really good at and not ashamed to admit it?  I worded that deliberately because aren’t we taught to be humble and not pushy about our achievements?  Celebrate your ability!

I am a good musician. For me music is not math but spirit and emotion. I connect to it and it carries me away. Those who are musicians will understand.

I am also a good prayer. There is nothing I love better than to find my connection with God in the Spirit.

Would you rather lose all of your money and valuables or all of the pictures you have ever taken?

Money is replaceable. I would choose to lose it before my pictures and memories.

And lastly

What were you grateful for or something that made you smile during the past month?

My mother meeting her great-granddaughter (my granddaughter), Daniella for the first time.

Wow! The fall approaches and here we are SHARING OUR WORLDS WITH CEE ON HER BLOG.

Here are the weekly challenge questions and my answers. When you have finished reading my response why don’t you go over to Cee’s blog and leave a response of your own?

Do you prefer eating foods with nuts or no nuts?

Oh I love nutty foods. I am big fan of Pad Thai. I love green bean almondine. And one onf my favorite coffees is Kona coffee, which has a distinctive nutty flavor.

Do you sleep with your closet doors open or closed?

My closet door does not close all the way so I always sleep with it open a crack

Are you usually late, early, or right on time?

I am usually early. My father used to say “Early is on time, on time is late and late is unacceptable.”

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

I am appreciating the work God is doing in our church at the moment.

It is time to participate in one of my favorite challenges here on the blogosphere...SHARE YOUR WORLD.

Every week the host of Share Your World offers up a few questions and in answering them we share little bits of our world with each other.

Here are the questions and my answers.

Which tastes better: black or green olives?

I like green olives myself, but I am the only one in the family who likes olives period, so I don;t have them often.

What’s your favorite room in your home?

I like my prayer room. Everyone else calls it the work room.

What fictional family would you be a member of?

Oh dear! This is a hard one?

My Big Fat Greek Wedding Maybe?

My Big Fat Greek Wedding movie poster.jpg

Nope the family is too big and too much in each other’s business.

Vicar of Dibley Maybe?

The Vicar of Dibley intro.jpg

Not as crass or crazy. So that’s not it.

Well it looks like Cee is back from vacation! I hope you had a good time Cee. It is time to share our worlds with her again. So here are her questions for the week and my answers.

If you would like to know more about the Share Your World Challenge. You can find out about that

Here

A class you wish you would have taken?

Oh my there are so many classes I wish I had taken…more I wish I had paid greater attention in. One class I wish I would have taken now is guitar 101. It is getting really hard to lug around a piano to concerts.

Are you scared of heights?

A bit. I was sort of put out of sorts when I walked the steps to the top of the Nieuwe Kerk in Delft. The parapets were so narrow and the wind was so high I kept feeling like I was going to be lifted off the building into midair.

Are you a good cook? If so, do you consider yourself a chef?

I am a passable cook. I do not consider myself a chef by any stretch of the imagination. I have a few dishes which are a little better than OK. Everyone at the church seems to like my meatballs (which are frozen and covered with canned sauce but ssshhhh. don’t tell anyone).

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

I have been enjoying reading Susan Howatch’s book GLAMOROUS POWERS. I find her character, Father Jonathan Darrow fascinating.

Share Your World With Melanie Not Cee

Cee Neuner is on vacation for the next few weeks; So Melanie has decided to write a NOT SHARE YOUR WORLD POST for the duration. Here are the “Not sharing your world questions” and my answers. Then you can go to Melanie’s blog and not share your world too!

Have you ever been in a food fight?

Ummm. Yes I have been in the middle of one, but I got out of it as fast as I could. Flying mashed potatoes are not my thing.

How do you deliver bad news?

In my line of work I get to deliver a lot of bad news. Usually I do it with as gentle a hand as I can; then I allow for emotions and grief, and then steer the conversation towards prayer.

What (if anything) do you think is beyond the stars?

I offer these videos as an answer:

What “redneck” (unsophisticated) activity do you like to do?

I like to eat Mac and Cheese with hot dogs cut up in it. On a really special day I might also cut up bologna in it or as my we say it in these here parts “baloney.”

Is there a scary scene from a movie (or book) you viewed a child that still haunts you?

That horrific scene from Cujo when Donna is bitten!

Share Your World July 23, 2018

It feels like I have been out of circulation forever. I have been on a bit of a vacation and today is my first day back sitting in front of a computer in about a week. So as I come back to the blogosphere I am choosing to post my first blog by answering Cee’s SHARE YOUR WORLD CHALLENGE FOR THE WEEK.

share-your-world2

Here are Cee’s weekly questions and my answers. When you have finished use the underlined link above and scoot on over to Cee’s blog and see how her other contributors have answered the questions.

In regards to puzzle what’s your choice: jigsaw, crossword, word search, mazes, logic or numeric puzzles, something else, or nothing?

I never do puzzles, but I am sensing that is about to change as I move more and more into a caregiving role for my Mom. I think puzzles are good stimulation for the brain.

List at least five favorite treats and it doesn’t necessarily have to be food.

I love to watch a good sci-fi or fantasy movie.

I love to binge read sci-fi or fantasy series…In fact sometimes I can’t stop until I have read the whole series.

Raisinets

Boston Fruit Slices

New England Clam Chowder on a cold fall day ( with oyster crackers of course)

What is your favorite type of dog? (can be anything from a specific breed, a stuffed animal or character in a movie)

I love small breeds and I have a particular spce in my heart for Maltese.
