My son, do not forget my teaching,
but keep my commands in your heart,
2 for they will prolong your life many years
and bring you peace and prosperity.
3 Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 Then you will win favor and a good name
in the sight of God and man.
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.[a]
7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord and shun evil.
8 This will bring health to your body
and nourishment to your bones.
9 Honor the Lord with your wealth,
with the firstfruits of all your crops;
10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing,
and your vats will brim over with new wine. Proverbs 3:1-10
The prosperity I enjoy means having a safe and comfortable place to live; sufficient financial resources to buy any foods I want–as well as to tithe regularly, pay my rent and bills; also, having pretty good credit; regarding health–prosperity is still being fit enough (though fat) that I can walk up a small hill (approx 1 block) to get my groceries and haul them upstairs without help; and last but not least at all, prosperity of my soul–the knowledge that I belong to God, and He’ll never leave me for a nano-second…He’s my holy “roomie” 🙂
I love the idea of a “Holy roomie”. With Him as our constant companion everything else figures itself out eventually.
You’re so right, Bro! If later on I write a book, Hedgehog Prayers, I’ll be sure to include the phrase “holy roomie”…because as an Encourager, I’m all about showing people how approachable God/The Lord is!! Once folks catch that revelation, they’re practically home free–speaking from my own experience. I’m so grateful HE gave me that, and showed me that even with depression as a thorn in the flesh–nothing can change or take away the close relationship WE have–such a huge comfort when things turn bleak for a bit 🙂
Amen!
