Uh-oh, re the Basil… Love the whatever you call the rock aggregate on the building.
I am glad you like it. That is our fieldstone wall. Our foundation is one of those New England Fieldstone constructions. The wall goes up another four feet at the front of the house and down another four into the ground.
Ahh yes, fieldstone–really pretty and probably outstands any shaking, I imagine.
Not like the shaking you get out West. I am, afraid these old house would come apart in seconds if we were to have a true earthquake. In some of these old homes the only thing holding them up is a bit of cement and the weight of the structure on top. As a region we are not ready for the big one. Most of Boston is reclaimed land from the sea built on sand.
Wow, I had no idea–about “land from the sea built on sand”.
Yeah. Most of the really wealthy section of Boston is called the Back Bay. It is where people like the Kennedy’s and the Kerry’s have their Boston apartments. In the next big earthquake most of those buildings will shake to pieces.
The rich are no safer than anyone else…unless they’ve built their lives and home on the ROCK.
Amen!
