Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord,
who have no confidence in the proud
or in those who worship idols. Psalm 40:4
What does it mean to worship an idol?

Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord,
who have no confidence in the proud
or in those who worship idols. Psalm 40:4
To worship an idol means turning our backs on God and forsaking His love for us. Putting our trust in an idol, be it material things, a movie star, a footballer etc. reveals how little we think of God. “Thou shalt not have no other gods before me.” (Exodus 20:3)
True story. I think of that show that came about here in America a few years ago. American Idol. The title spoke volumes about what we as a culture value.
Exactly and the younger ones are gravitating towards these shows like a magnet.
The whole culture is.
To put it, or him/her before the Lord in our affections/heart, worship, confidence, even time spent.
When we Love God Pastor Lilli we will Love others and show that we do and what we do for them we are doing for Him but when we Worship pagan gods we are committing Spiritual Adultery and show we do not have God’s Love in our Hearts, this is the same as loving Money more than God, we cannot in all Truth Love Him and Money too, we will always put Money before God and His good works, our idols are anything we make more important than God as Stella shared.
Christian Love Always – Anne.
I agree Anne. In Western cultures we had a time where we did not struggle with paganism so much (that is changing) but we didn’t really replace our paganism with Christianity. We replaced it with humanism. We elevated ourselves to the highest place. We made our comfort our whims our wishes idols that replaced service to the Father.
