I waited patiently for the Lord to help me,
and he turned to me and heard my cry.
2 He lifted me out of the pit of despair,
out of the mud and the mire.
He set my feet on solid ground
and steadied me as I walked along. Psalm 40:1,2

For me, it’s turning off the television and removing other similar distractions. I get impatient, but realize how can God speak to me if I’m distracted! It’s not His fault! Thanks for a great question!
I have a similar difficulty. The T.V. is a major distraction on my life too. I am working on it.
Keeping busy, and praying–praying in the Spirit helps a lot, so I don’t just keep repeating myself…writing, reading His Word…talking with a friend…
Praying in the Spirit is a powerful tool!
Yes it is–sadly, I forget to use it…
I am trying to practice every day.
PS–I do use TV as a distraction when my negative thoughts are “looping”.
Sometimes I sit in front of it because I am too tired to do anything else and I am not ready to go to bed.
YES, I know about that!
