I behaved myself as though he had been my friend or brother: I bowed down heavily, as one that mourneth for his mother.
15 But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not:
16 With hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.
17 Lord, how long wilt thou look on? rescue my soul from their destructions, my darling from the lions. Psalm 35:14-17
Note David asks God to rescue his soul. What do you think he is asking here?

I’m going to guess that David is so desperately depressed/oppressed that he must feel he’s not going to make it if God doesn’t rescue is soul–FAST. Been there.
It is comforting to me to know that even very great warriors like David and men after God’s own heart get into these spaces from time to time, and God rescues them.
I agree with you–for a long time, early in my faith walk, I assumed all the Bible folk were saints…so far ahead of me, that I’d never make it. Now, as you say, it’s a comfort to know we’re All human–and that it doesn’t scare God one bit!
Nor does it surprise Him. That thought was a real revelation to me when God brought it to my mind.
No, He’s not surprised by anything–makes it tough to throw Him a party!
And yet we do it every time we praise Him and He loves it even though He is not surprised.
He’s too wonderful words 🙂
Yes He is, but we try don’t we?
We soytenly do!!
