Mid Afternoon Meditation 1-3-17

I behaved myself as though he had been my friend or brother: I bowed down heavily, as one that mourneth for his mother.

15 But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not:

16 With hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.

17 Lord, how long wilt thou look on? rescue my soul from their destructions, my darling from the lions. Psalm 35:14-17

The word darling is the word yä·khēd’ and it means,

only, only one, solitary, one

  1. only, unique, one

  2. solitary

  3. (TWOT) only begotten son

It is translated as “darling” twice in the old testament and as “only” 6 times. The NLT translates this bit as “save my own life from the lions”. What do you think David is saying by using this word?

  1. I like to think that David was thinking about someone else when he wrote this. He was married and had to leave his wife behind when he fled from King Saul. His parents were in danger from the King as well and had to be relocated and put under guard in Moab for their own protection.
