It’s time once again for another episode of Friday Fictioneers. This is the place where 100 or so authors hang their hats on Fridays to tell 100 or so stories in 100 or so words all from 1 picture. Join the forum and read the stories by clicking HERE.
Here is the photo we are working from this week
And here is my story:
From Behind Glass Walls
By JE Lillie
“From here it seems like you can see the world,” She said.
“And I’m the Lord of all I survey,” I said.
She laughed her little laugh.
“Careful. Pride goes before the fall.”
We had known each other too long for me to take her seriously.
Leaving she kissed my cheek .
It was then I noticed the papers on my desk.
“Petition For Divorce.” read the heading.
Just below that was a yellow post-it in her perfect cursive.
“It’s time for me to find a place out in the world we’ve been looking at for so long.”
Ouch.
He should have taken her seriously.
Oh dear.
Indeed.
That last line is heartbreaking. Well done.
Thank you Sandra!
Oh no, it appears she’s been feeling trapped and confined in that relationship.
Yes indeed and he is blissfully unaware at least for a few moments.
Oooo, it seems like the communication line was a one way, that’s too bad!
It was indeed.
She did right. I like the flow of your story.
Thank you. I don’t know if she did right or not. She did what she felt and sometimes what we feel leads us down a very dangerous path.
A chilling message for someone. The last line says a lot about the relationship.
It does and perhaps his greatest mistake was not taking her seriously about his pride issue.
Good for her, I hope she finds a bit of happiness. Being stuck in a nowhere relationship is agony. Well done!
You are right about that. Having been the man in a “going nowhere relationship” …being at fault well that’s just the worst. A lesson well learned and never to be repeated.
This was gut wrenching. I really felt for this man but I understood where the woman was coming from.
We men can so easily get caught up in ourselves. Over-arching pride is such a downfall.
