Share Your World – 2015 Week #6

And the questions of the week from Cee are…

What was the last time you went to a new place?

The last time I went somewhere I had never been before was in October when I went to Ireland.

Me at the Rock of Cashel

Me at the Rock of Cashel

If you were or are a writer do you prefer writing short stories, poems or novels, other?  And what type of genre would you prefer?

I love writing all of the above. One of my favorite exercises here in the blogosphere is to write a complete story in a hundred words or so. I haven’t been able to practice in a bit but I love to take the Friday Fictioneers challenge at Rochelle’s blog here

https://rochellewisofffields.wordpress.com/

I am not currently in a poetry phase but I do have books of the stuff. Right now I am working on a novel I hope to have published soon.

Out of your five senses (touch, taste, sight, smell, hearing) which is your favorite?

I think hearing is my favorite sense. I would be very sad if I could no longer hear the whisper of the winds through the trees or the rush of the waves along the shore. The world is full of music I would miss dearly if I could not hear it. There is something powerful and even life changing in the beat of the drum and the cry of the whistle.

If 100 people your age were chosen at random, how many do you think you’d find leading a more satisfying life than yours?

Not many. I am growing more and more content everyday as I see the purposes of God coming to their fulfillment in my life.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am really glad I got up through chapter 19 sent off to the editors/publishers last week. Hopefully this week I will finish the book.

Share Your World 2015 Week 5

share-your-world2

It’s that time of the week again when a bunch of us bloggers share our world. If you would like to share a bit of your world go to:

http://ceenphotography.com/2015/02/02/share-your-world-2015-week-5/

And learn the rules of sharing your world with Cee!

Here are the questions:

Do you prefer shopping or going to a park?

I love the park. I am not a huge shopper.

100_4562

If you were a shoe, what kind would you be and why?

I would be a snow boot because right now I need the insulation. Although sometime around June I would want to convert to being a sandal.

What’s the story behind a time when you got locked out?

Oh! This is a good one. When the kids were little I took my daughter and son to camp. I worked as a counsellor and they were campers. During the week I was gone, the front door broke. My wife being very handy replaced the door but did not put the old knobs back on. When the kids and I got home at the end of a very long week of camp my house keys no longer worked and we could not get back into the house.

Do you prefer eating foods with nuts or no nuts?

Depends what it is. An ice cream sundae is much better with nuts. Mashed potatoes? Not so much.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am really grateful that we had time to clean up from the last snowstorm before this one came in. Some folks in Boston were not so lucky. I am looking forward to getting cleaned up from winter storm Linus and perhaps then finishing the rewrites on my book.

Share Your World 2015 Week 4

share-your-world2

Week four of 2015 already! Only 46 weeks left to shop for Christmas. But when your not doing that you should check out how  Cee’s other contributors answered her questions this week.

Share Your World – 2015 Week #4

Here are the questions in question:

Where did you live at age five?  Is it the same place or town you live now?

When I was five my parents were renting out a house that belonged to my Uncle Dick and Aunt Lore. They were stationed in Hawaii while Uncle Dick was deployed to Viet Nam. I live about two miles from that house now. I drive by it every time I take my car to the mechanic.

You are invited to a party that will be attended by many fascinating people you never met.  Would you attend this party if you were to go by yourself?

It really depends on the type of party. If it’s a sit down dinner party where I can share in table conversation then yes. If it’s a mixer then no.

Did you grow up in a small or big town? Did you like it?

I grew up in a small town. I loved it and still love living in that small town.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I went through most of the boyhood dreams of being a cop, a fireman, a vet, a zoo keeper etc. But I settled on my real career choices by the time I was in eighth grad. I knew at that point I was called to be a minister and a writer.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful that last week I was able to create some new processes that will help with ministry. I am looking forward to getting some good photos after this blizzard.

Share Your World 2015 Week #3

It is time once again to share our world with Cee and this week Chris has helped her to pick some really good if really tough questions!

This ought to be an absolute blast and really revealing!

share-your-world2

Here are the questions:

Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?

I suppose the obvious answer for me would be, Jesus, but I figure HE is already a guest at every dinner I host so I won’t be saying Jesus today. I was just listening to some music by Celtic Thunder singer, Ryan Kelly the other day and I would really like to take him to dinner sometime to pick his brain and to hear about his faith story.

When did you last sing to yourself? To someone else?

Since I lead worship pretty regularly, singing to other people is something I do just about every week. As far as singing to myself I do that constantly. Today I had the song “The Love of God” burning through my brain all day, that and “Broken Things”.

If you could wake up tomorrow having gained any one quality or ability, what would it be?

If I could wake up tomorrow glorified in my body (that is made supernaturally complete and perfect) that would be a great boon!

What, if anything, is too serious to be joked about?

Ooh this is a really hard one. I joke about a lot of things. Sometimes I even joke about and with God (He jokes back by the way God does have a sense of humor). Sometimes I feel like I am a bit irreverent with God and have to tone it down.

I would say that one thing I never joke about is sex. It is perhaps the most personal and sacred thing on the planet and dirty jokes really have no place anywhere in my life or in anyone else’s for that matter.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am really grateful that my lead pastor’s mother made a miraculous recovery and came home from the hospital!  This week I am looking forward to editing more chapters of my book and sending them off to the editor!

Share Your World 2015 Week 2

Time to take a walk on the lighter side of the river bank. My posts lately have been getting pretty deep. God is sharing some really good stuff with me and I love it, but it’s time to come up for some air and a little levity.

So Cee has provided me with just the opportunity with Share Your World Week 2

share-your-world2

Look at that folks, we are half way through January already! It’s almost Christmas! 🙂

Here are the five questions that get us closer to next December.

Are you a hugger or a non-hugger?

I am a non-hugger who has been culturally conditioned to hug. In my family we generally observed a two foot rule…no hugging, no kissing, no touching unless it was a Gibbs slap (NCIS reference there couldn’t resist) but you cannot have long exposure to church culture even in New England and not be involved in the occasional hug.

What’s your favorite ice-cream flavor?

I love raspberry mocha, or orange pineapple, or Cherry Garcia, or black raspberry chocolate chip, or Moose tracks or spumoni or rainbow sherbert or chunky monkey or rum raisin or chocolate cherry chunk or…….

Do you prefer exercising your mind or your body? How frequently do you do either?

I prefer exercising my mind. I have succeeded in establishing a fairly rigid reading and writing regimen to keep the old conker sharp. However, I am trying to establish a physical exercise regimen and I hope by the end of the year to be fairly scheduled in that as well.

Are you more of a dog person or a cat person? Why?

I love little dogs and cats. I like something that can sit on my lap and truthfully big dogs kinda’ freak me out.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful for a very successful Special Touch chapter meeting last Saturday. 100_4726 This week I am looking forward to having some extra time to pray, study and write.

Here are this week’s New Year questions!

How do you get rid of pesky phone calls from telemarketers?

This might seem rude but if a person doesn’t respond the first time I say “hello” I just hang up.

What are you a “natural” at doing?

I am a natural musician. I would love to be a natural painter. I love watching the artists at C.cada who can just lay brush to canvas and make it look like something in the real world. I lay brush to canvas and end up with “splat”! So I just sing as I take photographs.

“Play to your strengths.” I always say.

How often do you get a haircut?

Once every eight weeks and boy that is way too long between trims. When I go to the barber it’s kind of like the spring shearing. Maybe closer attention to the barbering schedule should be a New Year’s resolution.

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word “fun”?

Dinner and the movies. I am not the funnest (most fun) guy in the world or so I have been told.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am really grateful I got to take my son-in-law and Daughter out to celebrate my son-in-law’s birthday. This week I am looking forward to our lead pastor coming back from vacation!

Share Your World 2014 Week 51

share-your-world2

Here we are batting clean up in the last inning of 2014. Cee has asked us 5 of the last 10 questions for the year and really next week’s questions only half count in 2014 since half the week will officially be 2015.

Here are this week’s questions:

Would you prefer snowy winters, or not, and why?

I would prefer not to need snowy winters. The first big snowfall feels like a treat. The eight feels like a torture. However I do realize that one of the reasons our fair state remains so lush is because of those snows. So I guess I’ll take the good with the bad and just keep shoveling or snowblowing as the case were.

So, you’re on your way out and it’s raining. Do you know where your umbrella is or do you frantically search for it all over your apartment/house?

My umbrella is in my van which by the way is mostly unhelpful because by the time I get it I am usually quite wet. Maybe I should change that.

Do you prefer your food separated or mixed together?

Hello! Peanut butter and spaghetti sauce guy here. Mix mine please. 🙂

What is set as the background on your computer?

100_1051

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I was very grateful to get a day with my son! We had a wonderful time. I am looking forward to preaching this Sunday at Cornerstone Church. My message is entitled “Paying the Asking Price.”

Share Your World 2014 Week 50

I will be taking Christmas Day off from blogging this year but check back in with me on Boxing Day (Dec. 26th) for a new story about the Laska Steps.

share-your-world2

It is hard to believe we are almost through 2014 and into a whole new year of sharing. Then again I have been saying “It’s almost Christmas” since January; So maybe I shouldn’t be surprised that we are here.

You can see how others have shared there world at Christmas by going to…

Share Your World – 2014 Week 50

Here are Cee’s four question plus a bonus

Do you have a signature dish? If not is their one in your family?

My family owned a restaurant in Winchendon MA from 1946 until 1990. I was a cook at the Old Travellers  for several years; So I suppose that means I have several signature dishes most of which belonged to my grandfather. I don’t make them much any more even though I have Gramp’s recipe box. I  pulled his recipe for homemade rolls out at Thanksgiving. They were an epic fail. These days I go for dishes that are short on ingredients and fast in the making. I do have this Kielbasa casserole I make a lot super yummy and only four ingredients!

Do you have a favorite board game?

I don’t play board games much anymore. I guess I am a little stodgy. But I used to love Clue.

Is there a household chore that you enjoy?

I really love making beds… and sweeping… and ironing. Just call me CinderAlan.

What is one thing you will never care about?

I will never care what color socks I wear with my suit or whether or not I can wear socks with sandals. I will never care what color shoes I wear with my suit either. Most days I am glad to get out of the house with shoes on. Speaking to that I actually I have a friend who is a teacher. He got to school the other day and took off his coat only to realize he was only wearing a tee-shirt. I think as a society we may be moving a touch too fast.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful I got to lead Christmas concerts at the Gardner VNA and at the Lifeskills Day Habilitation Program. I am also grateful we had four teams caroling in eight locations last Friday night reaching some of the loneliest people in our area with Christmas love.

This next week I am looking forward to spending a few hours with my son who is home visiting from PA.

Share Your World 2014 Week 49

Really week 49?!? Unbelievable. What they say is true; The older you get the faster time flies.

Here we are once again sharing our world with each other. Come join the bandwagon and share your world with this community of bloggers found at:

http://ceenphotography.com/2014/12/15/share-your-world-2014-week-49/

It’s easy and fun. All you have to do is answer four simple questions and copy and paste to Cee’s post in the comments section. Here are the questions and my answers…

What is your preferred hot drink: coffee, tea, water, hot chocolate, or other?

Everyone who knows Pastor Wrinkles knows how much he likes coffee! But at this season I have also been known to sip a salted  caramel hot chocolate.

What was your favorite toy as a child  . . .  and now?

I remember this dinosaur set I used to play with. I must have really liked it because I remember my grandmother buying one for her house and I am assuming Grams didn’t have that deep an interest in paleontology. Now my favorite toy has to be a toss-up between my tablet and my piano.

Candy factories of the entire world have become one and will now be making only one kind of candy. Which kind, if you were calling the shots?

It’s not even a question. Twix and if you must know it is right Twix.

Would you want $100,000 right now or $120,000 in a year (tax Free)?

In my world 20,000.00 is a lot of money. I’ll wait!

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful that our Special Touch gathering on Saturday went so well (see pictures in my Special Touch post coming soon). This week I am looking forward to doing a Christmas concert at the Gardner Visiting Nurses Center and going caroling with 60 people from our congregation!

See now that wasn’t so hard was it?

Now, here are this week’s Share Your World questions!

What is your favorite toppings on pizza?

I want to learn more about …

What are three places you’ve enjoyed visiting?

Do you prefer eating the frosting of the cake or the cupcake first?

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

A Share Your World Mini Story

by JE Lillie

It was late. My, mind was a little foggy as I read her questions and I was certain I would never make it through them without falling asleep. I took another swig of coffee and grabbed a slice of pizza from the box, my favorite Canadian bacon and pineapple.  It was a desperate attempt to wake myself up so that I could spend the time I needed to learn more about the blogging world and how to become a success in the forum I felt God had told me to work in.. When the coffee and pizza didn’t work to snap me out of my somnolence I turned to the cupcakes and licked all the sugary frosting off the tops. I can always leave the cake but buttercream frosting is almost as much fun as coffee, and everyone who knows me knows how much I like my coffee!

After I filled out the questions from Share Your World I turned my attention to blogs about travel. I have loved my journeys through Ireland, the Netherlands and the Midwest. Perhaps I will be writing more about these in the future.. For now though I am thankful for being able to rest these last couple of weeks and I am looking forward to a week of concerts coming up in the Christmas season. I imagine you will all be hearing more about these in the days to come!
