Share Your World 2014: Learning To Be Content and Having a Bit To Go

share-your-world2

So Cee’s post this week has me thinking about my level of contentedness. I like to think of myself as a pretty content guy. You know, ducks and water and rollin’ off the back and all that. But as I looked at Cee’s questions this week I realized I might not be as contented as I first thought.  Paul the apostle said: Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. 12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. 13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. Phil. 4:11-13 NIV

I realize I have a ways to go before I get there; So thank you Cee! I am going to use this post to practice my contentment affirmations! What an opportunity!

If you had a choice to live anywhere would be your preference salt water beaches, forest, fresh water lakes, hot tub, ski resort or desert?

I love each of these locations but God has given me a great home in North Central MA. I get the privilege of living in a coniferous rain forest. We seldom have anything close to real drought. The weather changes regularly so I don’t have time to get bored and the four seasons show themselves in full splendor. I am sixty miles out of Boston and just a little farther from Providence. The rocky beaches of the Atlantic are only an hour to my east. The Green Mountains White Mountains and Berkshires are all within a day’s drive. That means hot tubs and ski resorts are all just around the corner!

What was your favorite toy as a child  . . . and now?

My favorite toy as a kid was my magic set and now I would have to say it’s my Kindle. I recently thought my Kindle was broken and I was pretty sad about that but I prayed and guess what? It turned back on!

Which do you prefer sweet, salty or both at the same time?

Both at the same time. Salty chocolaty stuff is really yummy. Dunkin Donuts here in MA started selling Salted Caramel hot chocolate this year Yum Yum!

Would you prefer snowy winters, or not, and why?

Oh heavens! This is where I have to really work to bring up the level of contentedness I am an enemy of the cold. As we await the arrival of Winter Storm Nikka and her foot and a half of snow I am bolstering my attitude with thoughts of salted caramel hot chocolates! By this time tomorrow this will be me.

Memories Of Who I Am

This week’s photo challenge from the Daily Post is the word OBJECT.

I honestly feel a little strange about the object I chose but let me explain…

LillieThis is the grave of my great-great grandfather, the first Joseph Elon Lillie. He was born in 1847 in Erving MA. I have visited it from time to time throughout the course of my life; But I took this picture at a time when I felt I was losing touch with who I really was…why I mattered. Standing beside my namesake’s  grave and remembering the Christian heritage that made up the tapestry of my life drew me back to the reality that I  was made for a purpose.

Take a gander at the significant objects of the Daily Post’s other contributors here:

Share Your World With Cee Cee: Am I an introvert?

share-your-world2

We have been given some fun questions regarding introversion this week. To find out how Cee’s other contributors responded go to

http://ceenphotography.com/2014/01/27/2079/

Here are my thoughts:

Do you recharge your energy by going out with friends for a good time or by spending with quiet time alone?

I spend a lot of time with groups of people. While I do have a few friends that I can gather with to recharge, many times when I am in a group I end up doing ministry work. I think this has more to do with who I am than with the demands of the people. That said I usually find it necessary to withdraw from society and to hide in order to recharge.

What is the most number of blankets you’ve ever had on your bed?

I think six.

You are invited to a party that will be attended by many fascinating people you never met. Would you attend this party if you were to go by yourself?

I would absolutely attend by myself.

Do you like talking to people on the phone? Or do you prefer voice mail or email?

I do prefer e-mail because it helps me to be more concise and thoughtful in my use of words. Many times though a face to face is the only way to go. You cannot communicate tone in an e-mail.

I think this pastor falls on the side of introversion. How about you?

Share Your World 2014 Week 2

share-your-world2

It’s time for another webisode of “Share Your World With Cee Cee” !

If you are just tuning in to Lillie-Put for the first time ” SYWWCC” is a weekly exercise in self-revelation hosted by none other than the world-famous Cee Neuner from Portland Oregon. Each week Cee asks us four questions (some simple, some probing). We answer.

Why don’t you check out all of Cee’s contributors and learn something of them when you are done learning about me. Simply go to        http://ceenphotography.com/2014/01/13/share-your-world-2014-week-2/

Now on to today’s questions!

If you had to move to a country besides the one you currently live in, where would you move and why?

Oh! there are so many choices. I love the landscape of Iceland and I would really love to get to know the” Land of the Midnight Sun” a bit better; But I know people in The Netherlands now, so I know I would be welcomed there and while the sun doesn’t shine until midnight,  in the summer it is still light until 10 P.M. . Austrailia or New Zealand have also always held a fascination for me ! What about Ireland? I could totally live there or maybe the Scottish highlands or the Lakes region of England…Wales, Wales is nice. Maybe I’ll just stay where I am and travel to all these places for vacations!

Music or silence while working?

I like to listen to “Whisperings” an internet piano station while I work.

What is your favorite color?

Cerullian blue at least that’s my favorite today. Tomorrow it might be taupe.

Do you have a bucket list? What are your three items? A bucket list are things you want to do before you die.

Hmm. I would like to sit on a tropical beach before I die, ride a horse through a mountain pass and publish a few books. I am not too concerned about getting all this done before I die though. I plan to be resurrected and then I’ll have time and eternity to have these experiences.

Share Your World 2014 Week 1

share-your-world2

Hey Ho Everyone! I have been out of commission since last Thursday because of a bout with the flu. I am still hacking up a lung but on the upswing. As the New Year rolls along I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss the first week of “Share with Cee Cee 2014”. You can find her answers to her questions at

http://ceenphotography.com/2014/01/06/share-your-world-2014-week-1/

Share Your World – 2014 Week 1

What are some of your favorite type of proteins to eat? (meat, eggs, soy, cheese, nuts)

I really like lamb, but right now I am on a vegetarian fast so I am enjoying almonds and quinoa!

Are you a morning or night person?

I am an afternoon person. I really am not a fan of the early morning or the late night though I am often required to do both and…

What is your preferred hot drink: coffee, tea, water or other?

Oh most definitely coffee. I like a strong African blend but my favorite is Hawaiian coffee. I like the bold nutty flavor.

Out of your five senses (touch, taste, sight, smell, hearing) which is your favorite?

Smell. I love the fragrance of the gardens in the spring. Right now in the middle of our morning snow storm if I close my eyes I can imagine the scent of black  locust and wild rose as it rises up from our yard in May.

French Rose

Share Your World Week 47

share-your-world2

It’s week 47 of sharing my world in 2013. I am not sure exactly what happened but we are not finishing off the year with week 52. Somewhere we misplaced 5 weeks! How odd. Anyway my answers are below and our other “Sharing Friends'” answers can be found at

http://ceenphotography.com/2013/12/30/share-your-world-2013-week-47/

How do you like to spend a rainy day?

Just now the more appropriate question is , “how do you like to spend a snowy day?”

100_1519

I don’t often have the luxury of calling it quits because of the weather,  but when I can I like to curl up with a coffee and get lost in a good book! We are scheduled for 6-12 inches of snow on Thursday and I am probably going to be driving into Boston at some point on that day.

What is the weirdest or strangest thing you saw or heard or did this week?

This week I  officiated at a funeral for a man I had not seen in  20 some odd years. He was the father of some friends from my youth group years, who have since moved to the west coast. As we were watching the family video at the closing of the service there was a picture of the man sailing a sail boat just in front of my grand-parents lake house. It struck me how small our world is that this man I barely knew somehow touched upon the lives of my grand-parents.

What item, that you don’t have already, would you most like to own?

I saw a three burner crock pot in Wal-Mart the other day. I would love one of those! It would make church pot-luck so much more interesting!

How many times you have moved in the last ten years?

I have moved once in the last ten years.

Share Your World 2013 Week-44

share-your-world2

Cee is changing things up a bit this week. Instead of giving us four short essay questions she is handing us 10…count’em 10… “would you rather” questions; And here they are!

WOULD YOU RATHER:

  1. Always have the sun in your eyes, while driving no matter where you go -OR-have to use your heater, full blast, in the summer and AC, full blast in the winter (also while driving)?                                                                                                                      This is not even a contest. Who wants to use heat in the summer and AC in the winter? I am not a big AC guy even in the summer, but I desparately need my heat in the winter. My toes, and my nose are the weakest parts of my body and once they are frozen it takes me weeks to warm up. I choose the sun in my eyes!
  2. Be able to go forward in time on 3 different occasions in your life – OR- go back in time once?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            This is a really good question! Since I am pretty sure that I could not change my past even if I went back into it, I think it’s best if I let the past just fade into gray. Going into the future though, now there lie some interesting considerations. I think the future is a little more fluid than the past and perhaps by knowing I might be able to better inform the choices I make today. So I choose to go forward into the future!
  3. Be considered annoying -OR- boring?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Boring is seldom effective in any circles. At least annoying has the potential of getting something done. Annoying it is!
  4. Be the last-ranked person in an accelerated high school class -OR- the first-ranked person in a decelerated high school class?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Being the least of the best is better than being the best of the worst, I guess. So last in an accelerated class is my choice.
  5. Drive 100 miles on a freeway with speed bumps every ½ mile -OR- drive 100 miles on a freeway that is completely covered with those little reflective lane dividers?                                                                                                                                                   I choose the little reflectors. At least they can be avoided.
  6. Find out the house you just bought sits on top of an earthquake fault -OR- an top of an old burial ground?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Since I fear earthquakes far more than the departed I would choose the burial ground. Still I think it would be terrible to find out after the fact.
  7. Have an itch in the middle of your back at all times -OR- an eyelash in your eye all the time?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      I am an eye freak. I hate having anything in my eye. An itch I could handle… an eyelash in my eye …I think I would probably have to be committed.
  8. Have your picture be on the one dollar bill – OR – on the cover of every magazine and newspaper once?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            As long as the reason I am on the magazine covers is positive (like I saved the world or something) I would choose that.
  9. Never again be able to make a right-had turn while driving -OR- never again be able to go more than 3 blocks straight in a row while driving in your town?                                                                                                                                                                Oh! I have actually had this one happen to me!The downtown section of one of the cities I lived in became all one way for about 10 years You could only turn left! REALLY ANNOYING!!! Now, since most of the Massachusetts road system is built on a twisty curve idea (no North/ South/ East West grids in this state) I lost the ability to drive straight for more than a half mile long ago anyway; I embrace the 3 blocks idea.
  10. See everything in slow-motion -OR- see everything at double speed?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       I think once I got used to seeing in slow motion and stopped anticipating everything I would enjoy it more than double speed. I know at my current pace there is much I am missing along the way.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Here is the link to discover what Cee’s other subscriber’s  said in regards to these very fine questions.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     http://ceenphotography.com/2013/12/09/share-your-world-2013-week-44-would-you-rather/

Share You World 2013 Week 43

share-your-world2

Well here we are, another week gone and creeping aggressively towards 2014! I loved Cee’s questions this week. I think I might even add a few pictures with my answers. Hey while your here why don’t you go on over to Cee’s page and see what she and our other friends have to say!

http://ceenphotography.com/2013/12/02/share-your-world-2013-week-43/

Do you prefer to receive gifts or give them?

100_0514

the best gift. Ice cream with the kiddos

I am not much of a gift person really. I love to sit with  people over a good meal and then perhaps a movie. When I receive gifts or give them I like them to be gifts that can be used up. I am a great lover of the gift card.

If you could be given ANY gift what would it be?

A sweet memory to mark eternity.

If you had a shelf for your three most special possessions (not including photos, people or animals), what would you put on it?

The Bible, My favorite music book and a pen and journal set.

Would you spend the weekend in an abandoned house in the forest?

Sure as long as I had some help to start the fires and catch the food ( I am assuming that the house does not come stocked). It would need to be a step up from this place though.
