He Is Wisdom’s Cry! Let Him Shout!

“The Lord brought me forth as the first of his works,[c][d]
    before his deeds of old;
23 I was formed long ages ago,
    at the very beginning, when the world came to be.
24 When there were no watery depths, I was given birth,
    when there were no springs overflowing with water;
25 before the mountains were settled in place,
    before the hills, I was given birth,
26 before he made the world or its fields
    or any of the dust of the earth.
27 I was there when he set the heavens in place,
    when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep,
28 when he established the clouds above
    and fixed securely the fountains of the deep,
29 when he gave the sea its boundary
    so the waters would not overstep his command,
and when he marked out the foundations of the earth.
30     Then I was constantly[e] at his side.
I was filled with delight day after day,
    rejoicing always in his presence,
31 rejoicing in his whole world
    and delighting in mankind.

32 “Now then, my children, listen to me;
    blessed are those who keep my ways.
33 Listen to my instruction and be wise;
    do not disregard it.
34 Blessed are those who listen to me,
    watching daily at my doors,
    waiting at my doorway.
35 For those who find me find life
    and receive favor from the Lord.
36 But those who fail to find me harm themselves;
    all who hate me love death.”

Who is wisdom?

Jesus is wisdom as the first of God’s works brought forth. As the one who was with the Father when the world was formed. (Prov. 8: 22-31)

Listen to the New Testament parallel speaking of Jesus!

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it. John 1:1-4

Jesus is wisdom as the one who blesses those who obey His word.

(Prov. 8: 34)

Listen again to this New Testament parallel

Jesus said…”Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock” Matthew 7:24

Jesus is wisdom as the one who blesses those who are ever watchful.

(Prov. 8:34)

Again a New Testament parallel

Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.” Luke 21:36

Jesus is wisdom as He is the source of life and favor.

(Prov. 8:35)

From the New Testament

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6

Finally Jesus is wisdom because those perishing hate Him.

(Prov. 8:36)

Final parallel

18For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19For it is written:

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;

the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”c

20Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles I Cor. 1:18-23

If Jesus is wisdom. Then His ways are wise. If He is wisdom’s cry then it behooves every culture to let His voice be heard. Where Christ is shut out folly and ruination will surely follow. The wisdom of man apart from Jesus will not stand.

We must let the voice of Christ shout over our nation again!

Prophetical-Priestly Quotes 8

100_1806

“My core fear is that we are, as a culture, as a species, becoming shallower, that we have turned from depth-from the Judeo-Christian premise of unfathomable mystery- and we are adapting ourselves to the ersatz security of a vast lateral connectedness. That we are giving up on wisdom, the struggle for which has for millennia been central to the very idea of culture, and that we are pledging instead to a faith in the web.” Sven Birkerts
