Here are the New Year’s first questions and my answers.

Would you prefer to receive a unicycle, bicycle, tricycle or motorcycle?

I would like to receive a unicycle. Not because I think I could ride it. Some days I can barely walk without falling over (and I don’t even drink). And frankly anything with a  little triangular seat  makes me go a little cross eyed with painful thoughts. So no I wouldn’t think of riding a unicycle…or a bicycle…or a tricycle. Frankly a motorcycle is just a really fast vibrating version of any of those aforementioned things (my legs are going numb just thinking about it). BUT  it would be cool to say, “Oh I have a unicycle.”

What is one thing you’d like to accomplish this year?

I would like to publish.

What was one of the highlights of 2016 for you?

2016 was probably the busiest year I have ever had period. It was a great year of accomplishment, but it was also the year when I crossed the threshold into what I think is going to be a quieter more reflective and perhaps more creative period of life. At least that is one of the commitments I am making to the Lord and myself having come through 2016. I guess that’s not as much a highlight as it is a life lesson but there ya’ go!

Would you prefer to fly a kite or fly in a hot air balloon?

Hot air balloon definitely. Maybe this is the year.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful for a quiet New Year and a wonderful visit with my daughter Melanie on New Year’s Eve.

This week I am grateful for an opportunity to preach a message on fasting and prayer at Cornerstone Church. The message is entitled, “Truth, Justice and the heavenly Way.”

Serenade

By JE Lillie

She had little to show for the last two years, just what was in her duffel. He owned the rest. When he told her about the new woman it had taken her only fifteen minutes to clear out.

Standing on the lift platform she realized it had all been a dream. Reality couldn’t be rolled up in under a half hour. She promised herself it would never happen again.

The street player arrived then and opened up his guitar case. As he began to play she smiled. He smiled back, and the dream began again.

The Reality And Purpose Of Tribulation

These are some good thoughts!

esther“And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.” – Daniel‬ ‭12:7‬ ‭

A man once told my father that Christians were just weak minded people. To which my dad calmly replied, “ok, then let me challenge you. Live as a Christian for one month, laying down your sins and selfish desires, obeying the scriptures, acting in selfless humility at every opportunity, enduring trial, persecution, opposition, and resistance with love and patience. Not for a lifetime, but just for one month.“…. After only a few days the man confessed…

Mid Afternoon Meditation 12-9-16

100_5324-001

The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing;
He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect.
11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever,
The plans of His heart to all generations.
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
The people He has chosen as His own inheritance. Psalm 33:10-12

What is the counsel of the nations that you see God bringing to nothing?

An Open Apology To Dolly Parton

What if we all did what was in our power to do?

Dear Dolly,

10040291_300x300I’ll be honest. I used to think you were a bimbo. I used to think you flaunted your big boobs, teased hair, tiny waist, and your syrupy-sweet southern accent just to sell yourself and your brand as a country singer. Granted, I was raised in the Midwest and lived as an adult for many years in the Northeast. I didn’t get you, much less the South.

For example, I’d heard about your origins as a poor girl from the hills of East Tennessee, and when I learned you’d created a theme park in your native Sevier County I rolled my eyes. “Really, a theme park?” I thought. “As if rollercoasters will really help the people of rural Appalachia. Why not create something truly useful to give back to your community, like a library.”

Oh.

You have created a library, actually, and possibly in a bigger and more…
