Write Anything Wednesday and Being Earthly Minded.

This post is in response to WRITERISH RAMBLINGS WRITE ANYTHING WEDNESDAY POST.

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. Ro. 8:5-8

I guess we have all heard the saying, “You are too heavenly minded to be of any earthly good.”

I’ve been accused of it actually. My response has always been to wonder if such a thing were even possible. It strikes me that Earth was conceived out of Heaven. That being the case, it does seem that the more we truly consider Heaven the more valuable we will be to the Earth.

Now I have met men and women who are so caught up with the notion of going to Heaven that they forget that Heaven is not really the point. God is. That being said, God has commanded us to love the world and if we fail to do that then we are not really heavenly minded at all. Failing to love is carnality whatever excuse we give for it.

I suppose however, that most of us are not so caught up even with the notion of going to Heaven that we are of no earthly good to anyone. If anything I think most people have a long way to go before they even get close to thinking about going to Heaven so much that they become impotent here on Earth. No, in all honesty, what most Christians suffer from today is the opposite ailment. We are so earthly minded we are of no heavenly good. It’s easy to do. The world, the flesh and the Devil all encourage us towards that mindset.

The devil tempts us toward pet sins.

The world pressures us into not going overboard with our own faith while pushing us to also except every other faith and ideology that comes down the pike.

The flesh urges us to rest in place of prayer or to play in place of going to church because after all we work hard.

Friend when we know more about what’s on the WB Network than what’s in our Bibles.

When we spend more time on Facebook than we do in prayer.

When we refuse to give up that habit the Holy Spirit has been dealing with us about.

When we make fun of other Christians for becoming too heavenly minded, maybe what we ought to ask is are we too earthly minded?

Psalm 2

Why do the nations conspire[a]
    and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth rise up
    and the rulers band together
    against the Lord and against his anointed, saying,
“Let us break their chains
    and throw off their shackles.”

The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
    the Lord scoffs at them.
He rebukes them in his anger
    and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
“I have installed my king
    on Zion, my holy mountain.”

I will proclaim the Lord’s decree:

He said to me, “You are my son;
    today I have become your father.
Ask me,
    and I will make the nations your inheritance,
    the ends of the earth your possession.
You will break them with a rod of iron[b];
    you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”

10 Therefore, you kings, be wise;
    be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear
    and celebrate his rule with trembling.
12 Kiss his son, or he will be angry
    and your way will lead to your destruction,
for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
    Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

Is this Psalm about the past, the present or the future?

What does it say about that time?

Share Your World 2016 Week 18

share-your-world2

Yep! It is that time of the week again, the time when Cee asks us five questions and we share our world’s with readers by answering them!

You can find a whole world of answers by clicking HERE.

Before you click there though check out my answers to Cee’s questions below.

Who was your best friend in elementary school?

I had two best friends in elementary school: Steve Shepherd and Steve Courtemanche. We all lived around the corner from each other and would play just about every afternoon on the steep hill behind Steve C’s house.

What things could people do for you on a really bad day that would really help you?

On my worst days the prayers of people have touched me the most.

If you could make a 15 second speech to the entire world, what would you say?

Jesus is the only Savior of the world. He loves you and wants to help you. Let Him in through prayer.

Would you rather be an amazing dancer or an amazing singer?

Oh, I love being able to sing. It is a wonderful gift and I wouldn’t give it up for anything. That said I would love it if I could actually move to a rhythm without looking like one of the Barba Poppas

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am so grateful to God for helping my sister get back to her mission in the Netherlands!

This week I am looking forward to having some time to get the office she was using for the last 20 months set in order and getting some of my paperwork out of my bedroom back in to its proper place.

Reblogged From God’s Little Acre,

COME AS YOU ARE

I shook my head in disbelief. This couldn’t be the right place. After all, I couldn’t possibly be welcome here. I had been given an invitation several times, by several different people, and I had finally decided to see what this place was all about. But, this just couldn’t be the right place. Quickly, I glanced down at the invitation that I clutched in my hand. I scanned past the words, “Come as you are. No jacket required,” and found the location. Yes, I was at the right place.
I peered through the window again and saw a room of people whose faces seemed to glow with joy. All were neatly dressed, adorned in fine garments and appeared strangely clean as they dined…

Weekly Photo Challenge: Admiration

This week THE DAILY POST HAS CHALLENGED US TO SHOW ADMIRATION.

I think what inspires admiration in me is an aura of the heroic.

img_20160305_121500.jpg

My daughter is an inspiration to me. She is a consummate overcomer. Tenacious and directed. She has fought and advocated for herself every step of her journey and soon she hopes to be Pastor Amanda Lillie.

I admire my son for his bravery in traversing cultures and continents to be a teacher overseas.

I admire my  son-in-law James and my daughter Melanie for stepping into marriage and making their way into ministry in the Boston suburbs.

I admire my sister who is heading to her mission field in the Netherlands tomorrow to bring the message of the gospel to the world through theater ministry

I admire the artists and ministry team of C.cada and Special Touch for their willingness to lay so much aside for the work of God’s kingdom.

And I really admire the staff and workers of Cornerstone for their hard work in the Lord.

Mostly I admire the One who has put something of the heroic in all of us.

HERE IS MY QUOTE OF THE WEEK.

“Trust- We can live without it. We can pray without it. We can go to church without it. We can read/study our Bibles without it. We can evangelize without it. We can preach without it. But without trust we cannot have faith, we cannot have hope, and we cannot have love.”- Becky Johnson
