Evening Meditation 4-13-16

For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing,but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written:

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
    the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”

1 Cor. 1:17-19

There is so much to think about in this passage. What strikes you about it?

  1. It strikes me that our eloquence is not only seen as unimportant here, but can also empty the cross of its power. Wow. So important to stay humble and allow God to speak through us.

    • It is not our words or arguments than matter. Only His! You make a good point. Yet Paul also relied greatly on the art of preaching. But His preaching was not his own but God’s to use and do with as he pleased.
